Document has been reformatted to meet World Wide Web specifications.)A billTO AMEND THE SOUTH CAROLINA CODE OF LAWS BY ADDING SECTION1-1-668 SO AS TO DESIGNATE THE RESTORATION, EXHIBITION, SHOWING, AND ENJOYMENTOF CLASSIC AND ANTIQUE MOTOR VEHICLES AS THE OFFICIAL FAMILY-FRIENDLY PASTIMEOF THE STATE.Whereas, introducednear the start of the twentieth century, the automobile was prized for itsutility in modernizing transportation. However, it did not take long for theappreciation and collection of antique cars to captivate Americans leading thefirst collectors to form the Antique Automobile Club of America in 1935; andWhereas, as cars becameubiquitous in American life, car enthusiasts began developing preferences. FromModel Ts and Packards, to Mustangs and foreign cars, there is a type for anycollector, and a community of like-minded people who enjoy the collection,restoration, and exhibition of antique or other classic cars; andWhereas, whether undera shade tree, in a residential garage, or in a modern facility with all of thebells and whistles, all of these enthusiasts share the same passion: taking adiscarded or neglected heap of rolling metal and turning it into a showpiecethat can be appreciated for generations yet to be born; andWhereas, even thosewithout the resources or know how to acquire and restore classic cars mayimmerse themselves in the pastime by attending exhibitions and car shows. Thereis room for everyone to appreciate classic and antique cars, the old and young,the rich and poor, often all together joined in the camaraderie that comes withthe love of antique and classic cars; andWhereas, SouthCarolinian's appreciation for classic and antique cars can be witnessed at anyof the numerous car shows held throughout the State to include the Run to theSun Car Show in Myrtle Beach and the Blue Ridge Fest in Pickens, both offeringfun for the entire family. Now, therefore,Be it enacted by theGeneral Assembly of the State of South Carolina:SECTION 1. Article 9, Chapter 1, Title 1 of the S.C. Code isamended by adding:Section1-1-668. The restoration, exhibition, showing, and enjoyment of classic andantique motor vehicles is the official family-friendly pastime of the State.SECTION 2.
