IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
AN ACT
To amend the Southwest Forest Health and Wildfire Prevention Act of 2004 to require the establishment of an additional Institute under that Act.
1.
Short title
This Act may be cited as the Utah Wildfire Research Institute Act of 2025 .
2.
Additional Institute
(a)
In general
Section 5(b)(2) of the Southwest Forest Health and Wildfire Prevention Act of 2004 ( 16 U.S.C. 6704(b)(2) ) is amended—
(1)
in subparagraph (B), by striking and at the end;
(2)
in subparagraph (C), by striking the period at the end and inserting ; and ; and
(3)
by adding at the end the following:
(D)
the State of Utah.

Conforming amendment
Section 5(e)(1) of the Southwest Forest Health and Wildfire Prevention Act of 2004 ( 16 U.S.C. 6704(e)(1) ) is amended by striking and Colorado and inserting Colorado, and Utah .

Utah Wildfire Research Institute Act of 2025

This bill requires the establishment of a Southwest Ecological Restoration Institute in Utah. Such institutes currently exist in Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado and promote the use of adaptive ecosystem management to reduce the risk of wildfires and restore the health of forest and woodland ecosystems.
