A JOINT RESOLUTION
Applying to the Congress of the United States for a 1
limited national convention for the exclusive purpose 2
of proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the 3
United States to establish term limits for members of 4
Congress. 5
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO:
WHEREAS, Article V of the Constitution of the United 6
States requires the Congress of the United States to call a 7
convention for proposing amendments to the Constitution of the 8
United States upon the application of two-thirds of the 9
legislatures of the several States; now therefore be it 10
RESOLVED, That the Ohio General Assembly hereby makes an 11
application to Congress, as provided by Article V of the 12
Constitution of the United States, to call a convention limited 13
to proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United 14
States to set a limit on the number of terms that a person may 15
be elected as a Member of the United States House of 16
Representatives and to set a limit on the number of terms that a 17
person may be elected as a Member of the United States Senate; 18
and be it further 19
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives 20
S. J. R. No. 6 Page 2
As Introduced
is hereby directed to transmit duly authenticated copies of this 21
resolution to the President and Secretary of the United States 22
Senate, the Speaker, Clerk, and Chairperson of the Judiciary 23
Committee of the United States House of Representatives, the 24
members of the United States Senate and United States House of 25
Representatives from this State, and the presiding officers of 26
all of the legislative houses in the several States, requesting 27
their cooperation; and be it further 28
RESOLVED, That this application shall be considered as 29
covering the same subject matter as the applications from other 30
States to Congress to call a convention to set a limit on the 31
number of terms that a person may be elected to the United 32
States House of Representatives and the United States Senate, 33
and this application shall be aggregated with the same for the 34
purpose of attaining the two-thirds of States necessary to 35
require Congress to call a limited convention on this subject, 36
but shall not be aggregated with any other applications on any 37
other subject; and be it further 38
RESOLVED, That this application constitutes a continuing 39
application in accordance with Article V of the Constitution of 40
the United States until the legislatures of at least two-thirds 41
of the several States have made applications on the same 42
subject. 43
