Document has been reformatted to meet World Wide Web specifications.)A senate RESOLUTIONTO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THESOUTH CAROLINA SENATE UPON THE PASSING OF GRAMMY-AWARD-NOMINATED ENTERTAINERAND COLUMBIA NATIVE ANGIE STONE, TO CELEBRATE HER LIFE, AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPESTSYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.Whereas, the members ofthe South Carolina Senate were deeply saddened by the untimely passing ofGrammy-Award-nominated entertainer Angie Stone, a native of Columbia, on March1, 2025, at the age of 63; andWhereas, born in 1961,Angela Laverne "Angie" Brown began her life journey in Columbia, where she grewup and went from singing in church to forming the early hip hop trio theSequence. She was a member of the congregation at Columbia's First Nazareth BaptistChurch, and her alma mater was C.A. Johnson High School, where she was honoredin 2015 on the occasion of the release of a new album and the start of aconcert tour; andWhereas, in time, Angiemoved to New York, where she signed a recording contract with Sugar HillRecords and the Sequence. She later joined another musical trio, Vertical Hold,before launching her solo career; andWhereas, over thecourse of her career as a solo artist, Angie Stone had hits with singles "NoMore Rain," "Wish I Didn't Miss You," "More Than a Woman," and "U Haul," amongother songs. The latter two were both nominated for Grammy Awards. Further,this neo-soul musical star had gold records with her 1999 debut album, BlackDiamond, and the 2001 follow-up, Mahogany Soul, which have combinedfor more than a million sales. Angie was also a prolific actress, appearing ina combined forty movies and TV shows; andWhereas, Angie Stone leavesto cherish her memory her two children, daughter Diamond and son MichaelD'Angelo Archer II, as well as a legion of appreciative fans and friends. Shewill be missed.
