1A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
2 AN ACT TO REQUIRE THE DIVISION OF MOTOR VEHICLES OF THE DEPARTMENT
3     OF TRANSPORTATION TO PROVIDE MATERIALS REQUIRED FOR LICENSURE IN
4     ADDITIONAL LANGUAGES.
5 The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
6SECTION 1. G.S. 20-7 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:
7     "(c2) Provision of Materials in Additional Languages. – The Division shall provide an
8 option for applicants to (i) receive the driver license handbook prepared pursuant to G.S. 20-88.1
9 and (ii) take the written test required for licensure under this section in all of the following
10 languages:
11(1)    Khmer.
12(2)    Each language that is the primary language of at least two percent (2%) of the
13State's population."
14SECTION 2. This act becomes effective January 1, 2026.
