6 Subject: Agriculture; food; single-use plastics; price look-up stickers
7 Statement of purpose of bill as introduced: This bill proposes to require that if
8 a wholesale or retail seller of food attaches a price look-up (PLU) sticker to
9 produce, the PLU sticker shall not be made of plastic and shall be compostable.
10 For purposes of the bill, “compostable” would mean the sticker is made of a
11 natural fiber or meets industrial compost quality standards and uses a food
12 grade adhesive for attachment to the produce. The bill would be effective July
13 1, 2028 to coincide with the European Union’s planned adoption of
14 compostable PLU stickers.

17 It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
