Printed 3/12/26--S.Read the first time May 7, 2025________A concurrent RESOLUTIONTo request the Department of Transportation name aone-mile portion of United States Highway 378 from the traffic circle in SaludaCounty west towards the Town of Saluda "Fireman Landon 'Cale' Bodie MemorialHighway" and erect APPROPRIATE markers or signs at this location containingthese words.Whereas, Landon "Cale"Bodie was described as a truly genuine soul that left a mark wherever he went. BornFebruary 13, 2006, the Saluda native was a 2024 graduate of Blythewood HighSchool where he was a member of the Technical Honor Society, certified by theOccupational Safety and Health Administration, a member of the National Societyof High School Scholars, and played football; andWhereas, a faithfulmember of the Future Farmers of America, Bodie had a true love for the outdoorsand agriculture. With skills acquired from his grandfather since age two, hewas an avid hunter and fisherman. A passion for working with his hands led himto spend countless hours alongside his grandfather, Wayne Bodie, honing hiscarpentry skills and creating cherished memories; andWhereas, a member ofBeulah Baptist Church, Bodie had a strong faith in the Lord and was known toalways have his pocket Bible with him wherever he went. From the tender age offive he had a passion to serve others and wanted to become a firefighter; andWhereas, Bodie joinedthe Circle Volunteer Fire Department after graduation at the age of eighteenand became a devoted and dedicated firefighter. He was proud to serve hiscommunity in this capacity and in other endeavors as needed; andWhereas, in lateSeptember 2024, Hurricane Helene, a deadly and devasting cyclone, swept throughthe Southeastern United States causing widespread catastrophic damage. Whileanswering a Helene-connected service call in Saluda County on September 27,Bodie and Chief Chad Satcher were tragically killed when a tree fell on the cabof their fire truck; andWhereas, Landon "Cale"Bodie lost his life in service to others and will be remembered for his warmsmile, generous spirit, and his unwavering dedication to his family, friends,and community. It is only fitting proper that this native son of the PalmettoState, who gave his life in service to others is remembered by having a portionof United States Highway 378 named in his honor.
