Resolve, to Study Pathways for Tribal Law Enforcement Officers to Receive
a Waiver for the Maine Criminal Justice Academy Basic Law Enforcement
  Training Requirement
   Sec. 1. Maine Criminal Justice Academy to convene working group.
Resolved: That the Director of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy, pursuant to the
Maine Revised Statutes, Title 25, section 2804-A, shall convene a working group that
includes representatives from each federally recognized Indian nation, tribe or band in the
State that employs tribal law enforcement officers. The working group shall study the
eligibility of tribal law enforcement officers who have received training from the United
States Department of the Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Indian Police Academy to
receive a waiver for the Maine Criminal Justice Academy's basic law enforcement training
requirements under Title 25, section 2804-C.
    Sec. 2. Report. Resolved: That, by January 1, 2026, the Director of the Maine
Criminal Justice Academy shall submit a report that includes the findings and
recommendations of the working group under section 1, including suggested legislation, to
the Joint Standing Committee on Criminal Justice and Public Safety. The committee may
submit legislation based on the report to the Second Regular Session of the 132nd
Legislature.
