1.1A bill for an act
1.2relating to education; restricting female sports team participation to the female
1.3sex; amending Minnesota Statutes 2024, sections 121A.04, by adding a subdivision;
1.4128C.02, by adding a subdivision.
1.5    BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.6Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 121A.04, is amended by adding a subdivision
1.7    to read:
1.8Subd. 4a. Preserving girls' sports. (a) This subdivision may be cited as the "Preserving
1.9    Girls' Sports Act."
1.10(b) A school sponsored interscholastic, intramural, or club athletic team must be expressly
1.11   designated as one of the following categories of team members based on biological sex at
1.12   birth:
1.13(1) males;
1.14(2) females; or
1.15(3) coed.
1.16(c) Notwithstanding any law to the contrary, the membership of athletic teams or sports
1.17   designated for females must only be open to participants who were biological females at
1.18   birth.
1.19EFFECTIVE DATE. This section is effective the day following final enactment.

2.1   Sec. 2. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 128C.02, is amended by adding a subdivision to
2.2 read:
2.3     Subd. 10. Girls' sports. The league must adopt league rules and policy consistent with
2.4 section 121A.04, subdivision 4a.
