sb1997/introduced-in-senate.txt119 S1997 IS: Stop Government Abandonment and Placement Scandals Act of 2025U.S. Senate2025-06-09text/xmlENPursuant to Title 17 Section 105 of the United States Code, this file is not subject to copyright protection and is in the public domain.II119th CONGRESS1st SessionS. 1997IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATESJune 9, 2025Mrs. Moody introduced the following bill;which was read twice and referred to the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, andPensionsA BILLTo revise the duties of the Office of Refugee resettlement with respect tounaccompanied alien children, and for other purposes.1.Short titleThis Act may be cited as the Stop Government Abandonment and Placement Scandals Act of 2025 or the Stop GAPS Act of 2025 .2.Sponsors for unaccompanied minorsThe Secretary of Homeland Security shall amend section 410.1201(a) of title 45, Code of Federal Regulations, by striking paragraph (6).3.Duty of Office of Refugee ResettlementThe Director of the Office of Refugee Resettlement shall—(1)track each unaccompanied alien child (as defined in section 462(g) of the Homeland Security Act of 2002 ( 6 U.S.C. 279(g) )) released from the custody of the Department of Homeland Security while such unaccompanied alien child—(A)is in the United States; and(B)involved in ongoing immigration proceedings; and(2)work with States to find placements for such unaccompanied alien children.
