sb3235/introduced-in-senate.txt119 S3235 IS: Disease Intervention through Nutrition Education ActU.S. Senate2025-11-20text/xmlENPursuant to Title 17 Section 105 of the United States Code, this file is not subject to copyright protection and is in the public domain.II 119th CONGRESS 1st Session S. 3235 IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES November 20, 2025 Mr. Markey (for himself, Mr. Blumenthal , Mr. Kim , and Mrs. Gillibrand ) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions A BILLTo amend the Older Americans Act of 1965 to provide for food-based interventions.1.Short titleThis Act may be cited as the Disease Intervention through Nutrition Education Act or the DINE Act .2.Food-based interventions(a)Definition of disease prevention and health promotion servicesSection 102(14) of the Older Americans Act of 1965 ( 42 U.S.C. 3002(14) ) is amended—(1)in subparagraph (B), by inserting screening for eligibility for Federal and non-Federal (including community-based) food is medicine programs and before routine ;(2)in subparagraph (C), by inserting , including referrals to Federal and non-Federal (including community-based) food is medicine programs, if appropriate after caregivers ; and(3)in subparagraph (D), by inserting (including from medically tailored meals and produce prescriptions) after improved nutrition .(b)Administration of nutrition servicesSection 205(a)(2)(A) of the Older Americans Act of 1965 ( 42 U.S.C. 3016(a)(2)(A) ) is amended—(1)in clause (vi), by inserting , including the use of innovative approaches, including food-based interventions, such as produce prescriptions after systems ; and(2)in clause (viii), by inserting and innovative approaches, including intervention programs, such as produce prescriptions, after including strategies .(c)Nutrition educationSection 214(2)(C) of the Older Americans Act of 1965 ( 42 U.S.C. 3020e(2)(C) ) is amended—(1)by inserting interventions and after other ; and(2)by inserting and referral to food-based intervention programs after and counseling .
