Printed 1/29/26--H.Read the first time January 13, 2026________The committee on HouseInvitations and Memorial ResolutionsTo whom was referred a ConcurrentResolution (H. 4574) to request the Department of Transportation name thebridge that crosses the Edisto River on South Carolina Highway 61 at the Dorchester/ColletonCounty line the, etc., respectfullyReport:That they have duly and carefullyconsidered the same, and recommend that the same do pass:DENNIS MOSS forCommittee._______A concurrent RESOLUTIONTo request the Department of Transportationname the bridge that crosses the Edisto River on South Carolina Highway 61 atthe Dorchester/colleton County line the "Ernest Grover Ewers Sr. MemorialBridge" and erect appropriate signs or markers at this location containingthese words.Whereas, bornMarch 16, 1943, in Summerville, Earnest Grover Ewers Sr. was the son of Amosand Gladys Ewers. A true Southern gentleman with aheart as big as the Edisto River he called home, Grover lived a full andvibrant life surrounded by the people and places he loved most. He proudlyserved his country in the United States Navy, earning the rank of E-4 beforereturning to civilian life, where he spent many dedicated years working in therailroad industry; andWhereas, Grover was a devoted husband, having shared over sixty-fourwonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Barbara Ewers. Together,they built a life rooted in love, laughter, and family; a bond that stood as anexample to all who knew them. Their union produced three children, sons EarnestGrover Ewers Jr., who predeceased him, William "Bill" A. Ewers, and a daughter,Debra Mackey. The extended family grew to include grandchildren and great-grandchildren;andWhereas, after retiring, Grover put his passion for cooking to gooduse by starting a successful catering business that brought joy and fullbellies to countless friends and neighbors. Known for his mouthwatering dishes,Grover's food, and the stories he told while serving it, made every gatheringfeel like a celebration; andWhereas, a man whonever met a stranger, Grover's easy laugh, kind heart, and unforgettablepresence made him the life of every party. He had more friends than he couldcount, and he treasured each one like family. Whether he was fishing, hunting,or just sitting by the river with his loyal dog, Jinx, Grover lived each daywith gratitude and joy; andWhereas, deeplycommitted to fellowship and service, Grover was a proud Mason, a Shriner, and amember of the Jesters organization. He also tookgreat pride in being a part of the Hillbilly Clan 82, where his humor andwarmth made him a cherished brother among brothers; andWhereas, Grover believed in the power of family, friendship, andbringing them all together. It wasn't just a part of his life, it was the wayhe lived it. He passed away peacefully on August 15, 2025, at the venerable ageof 82 leaving behind a legacy of laughter, loyalty, and love, and a communitythat is better because he was in it. Grover will be dearly missed but neverforgotten. Now, therefore,Be it resolved bythe House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:That the membersof the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, request theDepartment of Transportation name the bridge that crosses the Edisto River onSouth Carolina Highway 61 at the Dorchester/Colleton County line the "Ernest GroverEwers Sr. Memorial Bridge" and erect appropriate signs or markers at thislocation containing these words.Be it furtherresolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department ofTransportation.----XX---This web page was last updated on January 29, 2026 at 04:28 PM
