4   General Description:
5This bill addresses imitation firearms that have been altered to have the appearance of a
6   firearm.
7   Highlighted Provisions:
8This bill:
9▸ creates an infraction for a minor, after receiving a previous documented warning from a
10   law enforcement officer, to possess an altered toy, look-alike, or imitation firearm that
11   has the appearance of an actual firearm.

20   Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
21Section 1. Section 53-5a-109 is enacted to read:
2253-5a-109 . Possession of an altered toy, look-alike, or imitation firearm by a
23   minor.
24   (1) As used in this section:

25(a) "Altered toy, look-alike, or imitation firearm" means a toy, look-alike, or imitation
26firearm that has been altered so that a reasonable person would believe that the toy,
27look-alike, or imitation firearm is an actual firearm.
28(b) "Minor" means an individual younger than 18 years old.
29(c) "Public place" means the same as that term is defined in Section 76-9-102.
30(d) "Toy, look-alike, or imitation firearm" means a non-firearm device regulated under

32  (2) It is an infraction for a minor to possess an altered toy, look-alike, or imitation firearm if
33      the minor:
34      (a) intentionally or knowingly possesses the altered toy, look-alike, or imitation firearm
35in a public place;
36      (b) knows the possessed toy, look-alike, or imitation firearm is an altered toy, look-alike,
37or imitation firearm; and
38      (c) has previously received a documented warning from a law enforcement officer
39warning the minor that it is unlawful for the minor to possess an altered toy,
40look-alike, or imitation firearm in a public place.
41Section 2. Effective Date.
42  This bill takes effect on May 6, 2026.
