            SENATE CONCURRENT
              RESOLUTION No. 5
1    A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION urging the Indiana
2 Department of Transportation to rename Bridge
3 256-039-00469, located on State Road 256 in Kent, Indiana, the
4 "Greg Cloud Memorial Bridge".
5     Whereas, Gregory Allen "Greg" Cloud was born on June
6 21, 1974, in Madison, Indiana, to Dennis Ray and Pamela Sue
7 Watterson Cloud;
8     Whereas, Greg graduated from Southwestern High School
9 in Jefferson County in 1992 before attending Ivy Tech and
10 Indiana University Southeast, where he obtained his waste
11 water license;
12     Whereas, Following graduation, Greg worked as a tow
13 motor operator at the Wal-Mart distribution Center in Seymour
14 before transitioning to Arkema in Carrolltown, Kentucky,
15 where he served as power house operator, TRS, and waste
16 management;
17    Whereas, Greg served in the Indiana National Guard and
18 was an avid fisherman, hunter, and member of the Madison
19 Bass Masters Club;
20      Whereas, Consistently focused on helping those in the
21 community, Greg began serving as firefighter number 2308 for
22 the Kent Volunteer Fire Company in 2003 was a member of
23 Arkema Fire Brigade, and went to the Texas A&M fire school
24 in the fall of 2005;

1     Whereas, In the early morning of Wednesday, November 1,
2 2006, twelve fire departments, including the Kent Volunteer
3 Fire Company, were called into action for a farmhouse fire
4 near Kent, Indiana;
5     Whereas, Just before 4:30 a.m., then-three-year veteran
6 Greg and four other firefighters from Kent Volunteer Fire
7 Company and the Hanover Volunteer Fire Department were
8 sent into the home to help drive back flames;
9     Whereas, After only four minutes in the home, the Hanover
10 Fire Chief began pulling firefighters out due to the thickness of
11 the smoke spreading through the home;
12     Whereas, After retreating, the group realized that Greg was
13 missing, and he was later found by a four-member rescue team
14 on the second floor;
15     Whereas, Greg gave the ultimate sacrifice for the safety of
16 those in his community, leaving behind his wife, Melinda
17 "Mindy" Sue Aulbach Cloud, his parents, his brother, and many
18 others; and
19      Whereas, In honor of his life of service and sacrifice, it is
20 fitting to rename Bridge 256-039-00469, NBI#030880, located
21 on State Road 256 in Kent, Indiana, the "Greg Cloud Memorial
22 Bridge": Therefore,
23     Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly
24     of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives
25concurring:
26      SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly urges the
27 Indiana Department of Transportation to rename Bridge 256-
28 039-00469, located on State Road 256 in Kent, Indiana, the
29 "Greg Cloud Memorial Bridge".
30      SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed
31 to transmit copies of this Resolution to the Commissioner of the
32 Indiana Department of Transportation.

                  COMMITTEE REPORT
 Mr. President: The Senate Committee on Homeland Security and
Transportation, to which was referred Senate Concurrent Resolution
No. 5, has had the same under consideration and begs leave to report
the same back to the Senate with the recommendation that said
resolution DO PASS.
