TERESA RUIZDistrict 29 (Essex and Hudson)SYNOPSIS���� Requires Commissioner of Education to recommend datesfor spring break in school districts.CURRENT VERSION OF TEXT���� Introduced Pending Technical Review by LegislativeCounsel.��An Act concerning school calendars and supplementing chapter36 of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.���� Be ItEnacted by the Senate and General Assembly ofthe State of New Jersey:���� 1.��� a. The Commissioner ofEducation shall annually recommend the dates on which a school district mayclose the schools of the district for a spring break.� If a school districtdetermines to close the schools of the district for a spring break, the districtshall consider the recommendation of the commissioner as part of itsscheduling.���� b.��� On an annual basis, thecommissioner shall inform school districts of the recommended dates of springbreak no later than June 30th of the prior school year.���� 2.��� This act shall takeeffect in the first full school year following the date of enactment, exceptthe commissioner may take any anticipatory administrative action in advance asshall be necessary for the implementation of this act.STATEMENT���� This bill requires theCommissioner of Education to annually recommend the dates on which a schooldistrict may close its schools for a spring break.� In order to assist schooldistricts in the development of their school calendars, the commissioner is requiredto inform the school districts of the dates for spring break no later than June30th of the prior school year. The bill is to take effect in the first fullschool year following the enactment date of the bill.
