Dawson Stadium in Orangeburg, Northwood quarterbackKevin Johnson threw for 340 yards and five touchdowns, three of them to AydanHogan, as the Chargers won a state championship for the first time since 2014.Johnson threw his fifth touchdown pass to open the third quarter. There was arunning clock the rest of the way; andWhereas, at the startof the game, things were looking good for Heathwood. The Highlanders took theopening kickoff and marched down the field with little resistance, including a57-yard pass, which set up a five-yard touchdown run, and giving theHighlanders a 7-0 lead just 53 seconds into the game; andWhereas, however, itwas all Northwood after that. The Chargers answered that score with a 36-yardpass from Johnson to Drew Wolfe that was a harbinger of things to come. By thetime the half was over, Johnson had four touchdown passes, the Chargers had tworushing scores, and the game stood at 40-7; andWhereas, Hogan endedwith seven catches for 126 yards, and Wolfe added five catches for 103 yardsand two touchdowns. The Chargers finished with 440 yards of total offense; andWhereas, such triumphsdo not come overnight; they take determination and hard work. With provenconsistency in both, Northwood's Head Coach Johnny Waters, with the ableassistance of his fine staff, built his football program into a championshipteam that refused to settle for second best; andWhereas, the NorthwoodChargers have given their school and community reason to be proud of theiraccomplishments, and the members of the House of Representatives take greatpleasure in adding their collective voice to the many encomiums flowing in tothis outstanding group of young athletes. Now, therefore,Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:That the members of theSouth Carolina House of Representatives,by this resolution, honor the Northwood Academy football team and coaches ontheir impressive win of the 2025 South Carolina Independent School AssociationClass 4A State Championship.Be it further resolvedthat a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Christina Furrow, head ofschool, and Head Coach Johnny Waters of Northwood Academy.----XX----This web page was last updated on January 15, 2026 at 11:11 AM
