1Concurrent Resolution Regarding Scenic Byway Designations

3  LONG TITLE
4  General Description:
5      This resolution approves the proposed Corridor Management Plan for an existing scenic
6  byway.
7  Highlighted Provisions:
8      This resolution:
9      ▸ approves the updated Corridor Management Plan for the existing Zion Scenic Byway.
10  Money Appropriated in this Bill:

15  Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
16      WHEREAS, in accordance with Utah Code Section 72-4-301.5, "a highway or state scenic
17  byway may not be nominated for designation as a National Scenic Byway or All-American
18  Road unless the Corridor Management Plan that will be submitted with the application for the
19  highway or state scenic byway to be nominated for designation as a National Scenic Byway or
20  All-American Road is approved by the Legislature by concurrent resolution";
21      WHEREAS, the Zion Scenic Byway was approved by the Utah Legislature as a State
22  Scenic Byway in 1990 for the entirety of State Route 9 from I-15 in Hurricane to US-89 in Mt.
23  Carmel Junction;
24      WHEREAS, a National Scenic Byway is a road recognized by the United States
25  Department of Transportation to preserve and protect the scenic, historic, recreational, cultural,
26  archaeological, and natural qualities of a road;
27      WHEREAS, the proposed Corridor Management Plan has been prepared in coordination
28  with the Zion Regional Collaborative and a byway planning team including representatives of

29   Washington County, Kane County, and all municipalities along the byway corridor, as well as
30   other agencies and interested parties; and
31WHEREAS, the proposed plan has been approved by Washington County, Kane County,
32   the cities of La Verkin and Hurricane, and the towns of Rockville, Springdale, and Virgin:
33NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
34   Governor concurring therein, approves the updated Corridor Management Plan for the Zion
35   Scenic Byway, which covers State Route 9 from I-15 in Hurricane to US-89 in Mt. Carmel
36   Junction.
37BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Utah
38   Department of Transportation, the Utah State Scenic Byway Committee, and the Governor's
39   Office of Economic Opportunity.
