3Relating to Montgomery County; to amend Section
4 45-51-231.01, Code of Alabama 1975, to further provide for the
5 expense allowance and salary of the sheriff if the sheriff has
6 served two or more full consecutive terms as sheriff.
7 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
8Section 1. Section 45-51-231.01 of the Code of Alabama
9 1975, is amended to read as follows:
10"§45-51-231.01
11(a)(1) Any Sheriff of Montgomery County who has served
12 two consecutive full terms shall receive an additional expense
13 allowance of twenty seventy thousand dollars ($20,000)
14 ($70,000) per year, payable in equal monthly installments from
15 the general fund of the county. This expense allowance shall
16 be in addition to all other compensation or benefits granted
17 to the sheriff and may be treated as compensation for
18 retirement contributions.
19(2) This subsection shall be void at the earlier of the
20 end of the term of the sheriff serving on August 1, 2023, or
21 on upon a vacancy in the office of sheriff for any reason.
22(b) Effective beginning the next term of office of the
23 Sheriff of Montgomery County, and thereafter, any sheriff who
24 has served two or more consecutive full terms as sheriff,
25 shall receive an annual salary in the amount of one hundred
26 seventy-five thousand dollars ($175,000) two hundred
27 twenty-five thousand dollars ($225,000). The salary shall be
28 paid from the general fund of the county.

29Section 2. This act shall become effective on the first
30 day of the first month following its passage.
