2  PROCLAIMING FEBRUARY 5, 2026 "GALLUP/MCKINLEY COUNTY DAY" IN
3  THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

5WHEREAS, the city of Gallup and McKinley county are the
6  northwestern gateway to New Mexico; and
7WHEREAS, the city of Gallup and McKinley county reflect
8  the rich cultural, recreational and economic diversity of New
9  Mexico; and
10      WHEREAS, McKinley county has the greatest number of
11 Native American residents of any New Mexico county, is the
12 home of members of the Navajo Nation and the Pueblo of Zuni
13 and is the site of one of the largest annual gatherings of
14 Native Americans, the intertribal Indian ceremonial; and
15      WHEREAS, last year, Gallup hosted the one hundred third
16 annual intertribal Indian ceremonial; and
17      WHEREAS, McKinley county incorporates the continental
18 divide, which separates the watersheds of the Pacific and
19 Atlantic oceans; and
20      WHEREAS, the city of Gallup has a historic downtown and
21 is recognized as both a New Mexico mainstreet and an arts and
22 cultural district; and
23      WHEREAS, in 2011, the legislature declared the city of
24 Gallup to be the adventure capital of New Mexico; and
25      WHEREAS, McKinley county boasts world-renowned adventure   HM 15

1  venues and trails, including the Zuni mountain trail system,
2  the jewel of the southwest; and
3WHEREAS, the city of Gallup is recognized as the most
4  patriotic small town in America and is home to a state-
5  national veterans cemetery; and
6WHEREAS, the city of Gallup is a center of commerce and,
7  since the nineteenth century, has been recognized by the BNSF
8  railway as a heritage community for its importance along its
9  transcontinental rail line; and
10      WHEREAS, McKinley county is home to Gallup energy
11 logistics park, one of only a handful of BNSF-certified sites
12 for economic development located in an internal-revenue-
13 service-designated opportunity zone;
14      NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
15 REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that February 5,
16 2026 be designated "Gallup/McKinley County Day" in the house
17 of representatives to honor and showcase the many facets of
18 the city of Gallup and McKinley county; and
19      BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be
20 transmitted to the mayor and city council of the city of
21 Gallup and the board of county commissioners of McKinley
