4 HR____ COMMENDING ANITA HAGGERTY ON THE OCCASION OF HER
5 RETIREMENT AS TALLAPOOSA COUNTY 911 DIRECTOR.

7WHEREAS, with great pride and special pleasure,
8 highest commendations are conveyed to Anita Haggerty on the
9 occasion of her retirement as the Tallapoosa County 911
10 Director after 34 years of dedicated service; and
11WHEREAS, Anita Haggerty began her career with the
12 county's emergency 911 system on October 1, 1991, before it
13 was up and running; she had been working as a paramedic with
14 East Alabama Medical Center EMS when the 911 board recruited
15 her; her first task was to ensure that every road in the
16 county was named and each resident's address was accurate
17 before the system could go online in 1994, a process that
18 took three years; and
19WHEREAS, during her tenure, Anita trained hundreds of
20 dispatchers in Public Safety Telecommunications, Emergency
21 Medical Dispatch standards, and CPR; as technology improved
22 over the years, she ensured that Tallapoosa County 911
23 stayed up to date, implementing the Tallapoosa County 911
24 GIS office, as well as the establishment of Enhanced 911
25 (E911), which increased the ease in getting to emergency
26 locations based on cell phone location among other essential
27 improvements; and
28WHEREAS, noting how difficult it is to depart from a

29 job you truly love and that you built from the ground up,
30 Anita will return as a part-time employee in February 2026;
31 she is the example of kindness, dedication, and integrity,
32 and her work has made Tallapoosa County a safer place to
33 live; now therefore,
34BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
35 LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That Anita Haggerty is highly
36 commended on her 34-year career with Tallapoosa County 911,
37 culminating in her esteemed leadership as its director, and
38 this resolution is offered to her as evidence of our high
39 regard and sincere gratitude, with best wishes for many
40 blessings and prosperity, even as she continues to support
41 the agency in a part-time capacity.
