7 Statement of purpose of bill as introduced: This bill proposes to clarify and
8 enable, to the extent not already granted, the Attorney General’s and State’s
9 Attorneys’ enforcement authority to conduct civil investigations into alleged
10 violations of statute concerning election-related misconduct, election
11 interference, campaign finance, and lobbying. This authority would include
12 issuing civil investigative demands and conducting sworn depositions and
13 enforcing respondents’ obligation to provide information. This bill also
14 proposes to require the investigating authority to share aggregate information
15 about these investigations and enforcement actions in a public report to the
16 Secretary of State’s office.

18 It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
