Document has been reformatted to meet World Wide Web specifications.)A senate RESOLUTIONTO EXPRESS PROFOUND SORROW UPON THE PASSING OF NaomiDye Cannady AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.Whereas, the members ofthe South Carolina Senate were deeply saddened to learn of the death of NaomiDye Cannady on February 1, 2026; andWhereas, a native of Bordeaux,Naomi Cannady, known affectionately as Mother Cannady, was born on January 28,1930. She attended Blue Branch Grammar School and later Mims High School, and graduatedfrom McCormick High School in 1974, demonstrating perseverance and a lifelongdedication to learning; andWhereas, Mother Cannadywas a lifelong resident of McCormick County, and her life was rooted in serviceto others, particularly in advancing literacy, education, housing stability,and opportunity for families and children. She founded and supported literacyinitiatives such as "Each One Teach One," worked with Clemson Extensionprograms, volunteered with 4-H Clubs, served as a VISTA volunteer, supportedHead Start initiatives, and assisted families in locating land, securingfinancing, and building affordable homes; andWhereas, a devoutChristian, she was the oldest active mother of Bethlehem Church of God Holiness,where she was regarded as a spiritual pillar, a trusted counselor, and a livingexample of faith in action. She served as a Sunday School and Vacation BibleSchool teacher, hosted Bible study in her home, supported women's ministries,and mentored generations through her example until her passing; andWhereas, Mother Cannadywas married to Mr. James Kennedy and was the proud mother of five children,nurturing her family with love, discipline, and unwavering faith; andWhereas, MotherCannady's legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched, the familiesshe helped stabilize, the children she educated, the faith she shared, and thecommunity she strengthened through humility, service, and love.
