9Relating to Jefferson County; to amend Section
10 45-37-230, Code of Alabama 1975, to provide further for the
11 compensation of the sheriff.
12 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
13Section 1. Section 45-37-230, Code of Alabama 1975, is
14 amended to read as follows:
15"§45-37-230
16(a) Effective beginning the next term of office, the
17 annual salary of the Sheriff of Jefferson County shall be one
18 hundred sixty thousand dollars ($160,000).
19(b) Effective beginning the next term of office, the
20 sheriff shall receive the same cost-of-living increases
21 provided to deputy sheriffs in Jefferson County granted after
22 that date.
23(c)(1) Effective beginning on the effective date of
24 this act, the sheriff shall receive an additional expense
25 allowance of forty thousand dollars ($40,000) per year,
26 payable in equal monthly installments from the general fund of
27 the county.
28(2) This expense allowance shall be in addition to all

29 other compensation or benefits received by the sheriff and may
30 be treated as compensation for retirement contributions.
31(d) Effective beginning with the next term of office,
32 the annual salary of the sheriff shall be two hundred
33 twenty-five thousand dollars ($225,000), and the compensation
34 provided for in subsections (a) and (c) shall be void."
35Section 2. This act shall become effective on the first
36 day of the first month following its passage and approval by
37 the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
