A house RESOLUTION
to declare the week of October 5-11, 2026, as
"Classic Literature Week" in South Carolina in order to encourage educators,
students, libraries, and community organizations to celebrate classic
literature through various activities, events, and discussions that highlight
the importance and relevance of these literary treasures.
Whereas, throughout
history classic literature has played a significant role in shaping cultures,
languages, and societal norms; and
Whereas, classic
literature encompasses ageless works that have stood the test of time, that
continue to inspire and influence generations of readers around the world; and
Whereas, the study and
appreciation of classic literature foster critical thinking, encourage
creativity, and promote cultural literacy among individuals of all ages; and
Whereas, celebrating Classic
Literature Week will provide an opportunity to honor and acknowledge the
enduring legacy of classic works and their impact on literature, arts,
philosophy, and other disciplines; and
Whereas, Classic
Literature Week will serve as a platform to promote the importance of
preserving and promoting classic literary works for future generations to
appreciate and to learn from them; and
Whereas, by recognizing
the beauty, depth, and significance of classic literature, we aim to encourage
a renewed interest in reading, studying, and discussing these timeless
masterpieces. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the
South Carolina House of Representatives,
by this resolution, declare the week of October 5-11, 2026, as "Classic
Literature Week" in South Carolina in order to encourage educators, students,
libraries, and community organizations to celebrate classic literature through
various activities, events, and discussions that highlight the importance and
relevance of these literary treasures.
