BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND,14 That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:15Article – Public Safety16 12–707.17 (A) (1) SUBJECT TO PARAGRAPH (2) OF THIS SUBSECTION, AN OWNER OR18 OPERATOR OF A STATIONARY ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM SHALL PAY FOR19 SPECIALIZED FIRE RESPONSE TRAINING, INCLUDING SPECIALIZED EQUIPMENT FOR20 BATTERY ENERGY FIRE SUPPRESSION, FOR EACH LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT THAT21 HAS FIRE SUPPRESSION RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE AREA IN WHICH THE STATIONARY22 ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM IS LOCATED.23(2)THE FIRE RESPONSE TRAINING PROVIDED UNDER PARAGRAPH24 (1) OF THIS SUBSECTION SHALL COMPLY WITH THE NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTIONEXPLANATION: CAPITALS INDICATE MATTER ADDED TO EXISTING LAW.[Brackets] indicate matter deleted from existing law.*hb1459*2HOUSE BILL 14591 ASSOCIATION (NFPA) 855 STANDARD FOR THE INSTALLATION OF STATIONARY2 ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEMS.3 (B) THE STATE FIRE MARSHAL:4(1) SHALL ADMINISTER AND ENFORCE THIS SECTION; AND5(2) MAY ADOPT REGULATIONS TO IMPLEMENT THIS SECTION.6SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect7 October 1, 2026.
