HR____ RECOGNIZING THE FOUNDERS DAY CELEBRATION OF THE
MONTGOMERY ALUMNAE CHAPTER OF DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY,
INCORPORATED, AND HONORING INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT CHERYL W.
TURNER.
WHEREAS, it is a great pleasure to recognize the
Montgomery Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority,
Incorporated, as its members celebrate Founders Day on
February 28, 2026; the special guest speaker will be Cheryl
W. Turner, International President and Chair of the Board of
Directors of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated; and
WHEREAS, Cheryl W. Turner was elected to the highest
office of the sorority in Washington, D.C., on July 12,
2025; prior to her election, the Jackson, Mississippi,
native served as National First Vice President from 2023 to
2025, during which time she provided oversight for the
establishment and enforcement of policies and procedures as
Chair of the Sorority's National Scholarship and Standards
Committee; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Turner previously served two terms as
Southern Regional Director from 2011 to 2016 and was the
first and only Mississippian elected to this position since
the inception of the Regional Conferences in 1926; in this
capacity, she oversaw 215 established chapters and
approximately 25,000 active members in the sorority's

largest region, demonstrating exceptional leadership,
administrative oversight, and organizational management; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Turner is a Diamond Life Member of the
sorority and was initiated through the Lambda Sigma Chapter
at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss); she has
maintained active membership through the Tupelo Alumnae,
Oxford Alumnae, and Jackson Alumnae Chapters, exemplifying a
lifelong commitment to sisterhood and service; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Turner retired from her distinguished
career as a State of Mississippi employee with more than 30
years of senior-level administrative and managerial
experience in state government health care, including
supervision of more than 200 direct and indirect reports and
oversight of an annual budget of $5,000,000; and
WHEREAS, her extensive experience in strategic
planning, fiscal management, compliance, and personnel
leadership directly strengthens the sorority's
mission-driven initiatives and organizational governance;
and she returned to the workforce in 2017 as Vice President
of Client Acquisition and Development with Jefferson
Stevens, LLC, where she continues to apply her expertise in
leadership development and organizational growth; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Turner remains actively engaged in her
community by serving in leadership roles on various boards
and contributing her professional expertise to civic and
faith-based organizations; she is a member of Farish Street
Baptist Church in Jackson, is the proud mother of one son,
and is blessed with two grandchildren; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That we hereby recognize the
Founders Day celebration of the Montgomery Alumnae Chapter
of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, honor its
esteemed speaker and International President, Cheryl W.
Turner, and extend our sincere best wishes for a successful
and memorable event.
