Turner, International President and Chair of the Board of14 Directors of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated; and15WHEREAS, Cheryl W. Turner was elected to the highest16 office of the sorority in Washington, D.C., on July 12,17 2025; prior to her election, the Jackson, Mississippi,18 native served as National First Vice President from 2023 to19 2025, during which time she provided oversight for the20 establishment and enforcement of policies and procedures as21 Chair of the Sorority's National Scholarship and Standards22 Committee; and23WHEREAS, Ms. Turner previously served two terms as24 Southern Regional Director from 2011 to 2016 and was the25 first and only Mississippian elected to this position since26 the inception of the Regional Conferences in 1926; in this27 capacity, she oversaw 215 established chapters and28 approximately 25,000 active members in the sorority'sPage 1HR132 INTRODUCED29 largest region, demonstrating exceptional leadership,30 administrative oversight, and organizational management; and31WHEREAS, Ms. Turner is a Diamond Life Member of the32 sorority and was initiated through the Lambda Sigma Chapter33 at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss); she has34 maintained active membership through the Tupelo Alumnae,35 Oxford Alumnae, and Jackson Alumnae Chapters, exemplifying a36 lifelong commitment to sisterhood and service; and37WHEREAS, Ms. Turner retired from her distinguished38 career as a State of Mississippi employee with more than 3039 years of senior-level administrative and managerial40 experience in state government health care, including41 supervision of more than 200 direct and indirect reports and42 oversight of an annual budget of $5,000,000; and43WHEREAS, her extensive experience in strategic44 planning, fiscal management, compliance, and personnel45 leadership directly strengthens the sorority's46 mission-driven initiatives and organizational governance;47 and she returned to the workforce in 2017 as Vice President48 of Client Acquisition and Development with Jefferson49 Stevens, LLC, where she continues to apply her expertise in50 leadership development and organizational growth; and51WHEREAS, Ms. Turner remains actively engaged in her52 community by serving in leadership roles on various boards53 and contributing her professional expertise to civic and54 faith-based organizations; she is a member of Farish Street55 Baptist Church in Jackson, is the proud mother of one son,56 and is blessed with two grandchildren; now therefore,Page 2HR132 INTRODUCED57BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE58 LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That we hereby recognize the59 Founders Day celebration of the Montgomery Alumnae Chapter60 of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, honor its61 esteemed speaker and International President, Cheryl W.62 Turner, and extend our sincere best wishes for a successful63 and memorable event.Page 3
