4 HR____ RECOGNIZING THE FOUNDERS DAY CELEBRATION OF THE
5 MONTGOMERY ALUMNAE CHAPTER OF DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY,
6 INCORPORATED, AND HONORING INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT CHERYL W.
7 TURNER.

9WHEREAS, it is a great pleasure to recognize the
10 Montgomery Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority,
11 Incorporated, as its members celebrate Founders Day on
12 February 28, 2026; the special guest speaker will be Cheryl
13 W. Turner, International President and Chair of the Board of
14 Directors of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated; and
15WHEREAS, Cheryl W. Turner was elected to the highest
16 office of the sorority in Washington, D.C., on July 12,
17 2025; prior to her election, the Jackson, Mississippi,
18 native served as National First Vice President from 2023 to
19 2025, during which time she provided oversight for the
20 establishment and enforcement of policies and procedures as
21 Chair of the Sorority's National Scholarship and Standards
22 Committee; and
23WHEREAS, Ms. Turner previously served two terms as
24 Southern Regional Director from 2011 to 2016 and was the
25 first and only Mississippian elected to this position since
26 the inception of the Regional Conferences in 1926; in this
27 capacity, she oversaw 215 established chapters and
28 approximately 25,000 active members in the sorority's

29 largest region, demonstrating exceptional leadership,
30 administrative oversight, and organizational management; and
31WHEREAS, Ms. Turner is a Diamond Life Member of the
32 sorority and was initiated through the Lambda Sigma Chapter
33 at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss); she has
34 maintained active membership through the Tupelo Alumnae,
35 Oxford Alumnae, and Jackson Alumnae Chapters, exemplifying a
36 lifelong commitment to sisterhood and service; and
37WHEREAS, Ms. Turner retired from her distinguished
38 career as a State of Mississippi employee with more than 30
39 years of senior-level administrative and managerial
40 experience in state government health care, including
41 supervision of more than 200 direct and indirect reports and
42 oversight of an annual budget of $5,000,000; and
43WHEREAS, her extensive experience in strategic
44 planning, fiscal management, compliance, and personnel
45 leadership directly strengthens the sorority's
46 mission-driven initiatives and organizational governance;
47 and she returned to the workforce in 2017 as Vice President
48 of Client Acquisition and Development with Jefferson
49 Stevens, LLC, where she continues to apply her expertise in
50 leadership development and organizational growth; and
51WHEREAS, Ms. Turner remains actively engaged in her
52 community by serving in leadership roles on various boards
53 and contributing her professional expertise to civic and
54 faith-based organizations; she is a member of Farish Street
55 Baptist Church in Jackson, is the proud mother of one son,
56 and is blessed with two grandchildren; now therefore,

57BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
58 LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That we hereby recognize the
59 Founders Day celebration of the Montgomery Alumnae Chapter
60 of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, honor its
61 esteemed speaker and International President, Cheryl W.
62 Turner, and extend our sincere best wishes for a successful
63 and memorable event.
