No. R-258. House concurrent resolution honoring the decades of extraordinary civic
participation and leadership of Lexa and Steve Clark in the Town of Jamaica.

   Offered by Representative Sibilia of Dover
   Whereas, the breadth of Lexa Clark’s public service is diverse, but it has strongly
focused on the provision of emergency services, as she initially enrolled in EMT courses
during the 1970s, was instrumental in organizing the Jamaica Rescue Squad, and still
dutifully responds to every rescue call, and
   Whereas, the education of Jamaica’s youngsters has drawn her attention as a village
school board member (1977–1980) and as a teacher’s aide at the Jamaica Village School,
where Lexa Clark used her Polish fluency to assist a young boy, who was new to the
English language, succeed in the classroom, and
   Whereas, from 1979 to 1980, she closely monitored Jamaica’s finances as the town’s
auditor and bookkeeper, and
   Whereas, for a dozen years, Lexa Clark served on the Jamaica Selectboard (2006–
2018) and admirably met the unique challenge of chairing the panel when Tropical Storm
Irene devastated the town to an unprecedented extent, and recently, she has assumed a
governance role at the Jamaica Memorial Library, and
   Whereas, Steve Clark’s roles at the Jamaica Village Cemetery began as a youth and
have included serving as both secretary and treasurer, and
   Whereas, among his municipal panel memberships were the village school board
(1982–1985) and the planning commission (1979–1988), and
   Whereas, for over a half a century, Steve Clark was associated with the town’s fire and
rescue services, including as treasurer and auditor, and was proud of his designation as an
honorary member of the fire department, and
    Whereas, for 52 years, Steve Clark served as Jamaica’s trustee of public funds, for
three decades as the town’s grand juror, and since 2005, as the Jamaica Historical
Foundation president, and professionally, for nearly a quarter century, Steve Clark was a
Vermont National Bank vice president, and
   Whereas, Lexa and Steve Clark exemplify outstanding municipal citizenship, now
therefore be it
   Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
   That the General Assembly honors the decades of extraordinary civic participation and
leadership of Lexa and Steve Clark in the Town of Jamaica, and be it further
  Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to
Lexa and Steve Clark.
