A house RESOLUTION
To honor and recognize the Calhoun COunty High
School "Thunder & Lightning" Marching Band on a fantastic season and to
congratulate them on a historic win at the 2025 Allstate Sugar Bowl Band
Competition.
Whereas, the members of
the South Carolina House of Representatives were pleased to hear that the
Calhoun County High School "Thunder & Lightning" Marching Band achieved a
total sweep in Class A at the 2025 Allstate Sugar Bowl Band Competition and was
hand-selected to perform in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Parade on December 31,
2025, in New Orleans, Louisiana; and
Whereas, the Calhoun County
High School "Thunder & Lightning" marching band is made up of 42 students
from Calhoun County High School, St. Matthews K8 School, and Sandy Run K8
School; and
Whereas, the "Thunder
& Lightning" marching band achieved a total sweep in Class A by placing
first in both major competitive formats, Parade and Field Show, and earning
every caption award for its class in both performances. The Parade Competition
Caption Awards are for Outstanding Music, General Effect, Percussion,
Auxiliary, and Drum Major, with the Caption Awards for the Field Show
Competition being the same, with the addition of Outstanding Marching. Capping
the sweep with the Overall Sweepstakes trophy establishes this as a historic
performance for Calhoun County High School; and
Whereas, the Calhoun County
High School "Thunder & Lightning" marching band exemplifies comprehensive
excellence within their field, bringing pride to the State of South Carolina
and their Calhoun County community by representing them on a national stage
during the Sugar Bowl festivities; and
Whereas, the "Thunder
& Lightning" marching band is grateful for the support of the Calhoun
County High School Principal Mr. Milton Howard and the leadership team, the
Superintendent Dr. Ferlondo Tullock and the Calhoun County High School's
leadership team, the Calhoun County Public Schools Board of Trustees, their
parents, boosters, and community supporters; and
Whereas, in a field that
demands discipline, teamwork, resilience, and excellence, Band Director Mr.
Travis Lawton and his talented band staff have utilized their own skills and
passion for marching band to create a winning team. The life lessons that they
have taught their students will continue to shape them throughout their lives;
and
Whereas, the members of
the South Carolina House of Representatives value the pride and recognition
that the Calhoun County High School "Thunder & Lightning" marching band
have brought to their school and community. They look forward to following the
band's future achievements in the days to come. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the
South Carolina House of Representatives,
by this resolution, honor and recognize the Calhoun County High School "Thunder
& Lightning" marching band on a fantastic season and congratulate them on a
historic win at the 2025 Allstate Sugar Bowl Band Competition.
Be it further resolved
that a copy of this resolution be presented to Calhoun County High School
Principal Milton Howard and Band Director Travis Lawton.
