Document has been reformatted to meet World Wide Web specifications.)A billTO AMEND THE SOUTH CAROLINA CODE OF LAWS BY ADDING SECTION9-11-115 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT A NON-VESTED MEMBER OF THE POLICE OFFICER'SRETIREMENT SYSTEM WHO DIES IN THE LINE OF DUTY SHALL RECEIVE A ONE-TIME LUMPSUM BENEFIT PAYMENT.Be it enacted by theGeneral Assembly of the State of South Carolina:SECTION 1. Article 1, Chapter 11, Title 9 of the S.C. Code isamended by adding:Section9-11-115. Upon receipt by the system of the satisfactory proof of death of amember of the system who had not served long enough to fully vest in the systemand whose death was a natural and proximate result of an injury by externalaccident or violence incurred while undergoing a hazard peculiar to themember's employment while in the actual performance of his duty, provided thathis death is not the result of the member's wilful negligence, suicide, orintentionally self-inflicted bodily injury, there must be paid to the member'sdesignated beneficiary a one-time, lump sum benefit payment equal to thegreater of his accumulated contributions or seventy-five thousand dollars.SECTION 2.
