A JOINT RESOLUTION directing the Transportation Cabinet to include Josh
Martin on the Country Music Highway in Floyd County.
WHEREAS, Josh Martin is an artist from the coalfields of Eastern Kentucky whose
musical works live somewhere beyond the outskirts of mainstream country music but
comfortably on this side of the ancient bluegrass tones of his Appalachian heritage; and
WHEREAS, Josh Martin moved to Nashville, Tennessee, in 2013, where his
singing, songwriting, and guitar playing helped him make quick friends with the
legendary songwriting community on Music Row; and
WHEREAS, in 2016, Josh Martin signed his first publishing deal with Sony/ATV
Music; and
WHEREAS, in 2017, Josh Martin's pop country songs "How'd You Know" and
"Just My Luck" were released by Sony's Treehouse Records; and
WHEREAS, Josh Martin left Sony's Treehouse Records for the freedom to create
and display his authentic take on American music; and
WHEREAS, in 2019, Josh Martin independently released his album, "Nothing
Holding Me"; and
WHEREAS, in 2022, Josh Martin and a few of his friends formed the Wood Box
Heroes and they released their self-titled album in April 2023. Their music has been
featured on SiriusXM, Spotify, and Apple Music, and they have made several
appearances on the Grand Ole Opry; and
WHEREAS, Josh Martin's guitar playing was featured on the 2023 Grammy-
nominated Willie Nelson album, "Blue Grass"; and
WHEREAS, Josh Martin has demonstrated immense talent, and his career is a
testament to his dedication to his craft and is worthy of being recognized by inclusion on
the Country Music Highway in Floyd County;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Transportation Cabinet shall honor the accomplishments of Josh
Martin by including him on the Country Music Highway on United States Route 23 in
Floyd County, and shall, within 30 days of the effective date of this Resolution, erect
appropriate signage denoting this designation.
