Document has been reformatted to meet World Wide Web specifications.)A house RESOLUTIONto urge congress to issue an armed forcesexpeditionary medal, or similar recognition, to all United States troops whoserved in Honduras from 1981 to 1992.Whereas, South Carolinabelieves that all service members should be respected for their service, alwaysreceive their earned entitlements, and be recognized for the sacrifices theyand their loved ones have made on behalf of this great country; andWhereas, the UnitedStates military maintained a presence in Honduras throughout the 1980s andearly 1990s, offering training, providing combat support, and conductingmilitary exercises with the host nation; andWhereas, the presenceof the United States troops served as a deterrent to aggression in the regionand as a means of support for democratic values through civil action inHonduran communities; andWhereas, United Statestroops experienced hostile fire and imminent danger, and at least one servicemember received a purple heart because of terrorist activity; andWhereas, United Statesservice members lost their lives while in Honduras due to terrorist activityand hazardous circumstances; andWhereas, all servicemembers who serve or have served in hostile environments should beappropriately recognized by the issuance of an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medalor similar recognition; andWhereas, it is fittingand appropriate for Congress to recognize all United States troops who servedin Honduras from 1981 to 1992. Now, therefore,Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:That the members of theSouth Carolina House of Representatives,by this resolution, urge Congress to issue an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal,or similar recognition, to all United States troops who served in Honduras from1981 to 1992.Be it further resolvedthat a copy of this resolution be presented to majority and minority leaders ofthe United States Senate, the majority and minority leaders of the UnitedStates House of Representatives, and to each member of Congress elected fromthis State.----XX----This web page was last updated on February 26, 2026 at 11:06 AM
