 SUPPLEMENTAL PAY: (Constitutional Amendment) Provides for supplemental pay for
  probation and parole officers
1A JOINT RESOLUTION
2 Proposing to add Article X, Section 10(A)(1)(c) of the Constitution of Louisiana, relative
3to state supplemental pay; to authorize state supplemental pay for probation and
4parole officers employed by the Department of Public Safety and Corrections; to
5provide for submission of the proposed amendment to the electors; to provide for an
6effective date; and to provide for related matters.
7Section 1. Be it resolved by the Legislature of Louisiana, two-thirds of the members
8 elected to each house concurring, that there shall be submitted to the electors of the state of
9 Louisiana, for their approval or rejection in the manner provided by law, a proposal to add
10 Article X, Section10(A)(1)(c) of the Constitution of Louisiana, to read as follows:

17(c) Nothing herein shall prevent the legislature from supplementing the
18uniform pay plans for sworn, commissioned law enforcement officers employed
19within the Department of Public Safety and Corrections as a probation or parole
20officer.

1Section 2. The provisions of this Act shall become effective July 1, 2027.
2Section 3. Be it further resolved that this proposed amendment shall be submitted
3 to the electors of the state of Louisiana at the statewide election to be held on November 3,
4 2026.
5Section 4. Be it further resolved that on the official ballot to be used at the election,
6 there shall be printed a proposition, upon which the electors of the state shall be permitted
7 to vote YES or NO, to amend the Constitution of Louisiana, which proposition shall read as
8 follows:
9Do you support an amendment to allow the legislature to provide state
10supplemental pay to commissioned law enforcement officers employed
11within the Department of Public Safety and Corrections as a probation or
12parole officer? (Effective July 1, 2027) (Adds Article X, Section 10(A)(1)(c))

 Abstract: Authorizes the legislature to provide supplemental pay by law to certain
  commissioned law enforcement officers
 Present constitution authorizes the legislature to provide state supplemental pay to sworn
 commissioned law enforcement officers employed by the state or its political subdivisions,
 provided those officers are employed on a full-time basis and serve the welfare of the public
 in the capacity of a police officer by effecting arrests, issuing citations, and serving warrants
 while patrolling waterways and riverfront areas.
 Proposed constitution retains present constitution and additionally authorizes the legislature
 to provide state supplemental pay to commissioned law enforcement officers employed
 within the Dept. of Public Safety and Corrections as a probation or parole officer.
 Provides for submission of the proposed amendment to the voters at the statewide election
 to be held November 3, 2026.
 Effective July 1, 2027.
