1A HOUSE RESOLUTION honoring the Floyd Central
2    High School Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps
3    Rifle Team.
4      Whereas, The Floyd Central High School Navy Junior
5    Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) rifle team won the
6    NJROTC Precision Rifle National Championship for the second
7    consecutive year;
8Whereas, The Floyd Central High School NJROTC rifle
9    team is known for exceptional marksmanship and consistently
10    demonstrates its excellence in shooting competitions;
11Whereas, Its members shoot with air rifles in three positions:
12    prone, kneeling, and standing, allowing them to learn and
13    demonstrate precision and accuracy while following strict
14    safety protocols;

1Whereas, The Civilian Marksmanship Program, in
2    cooperation with the Missouri Marksmanship Education
3    Center, hosted the NJROTC National Championships at its new
4    state-of-the-art training facility in Columbia, Missouri, from
5    February 12 to February 14;
6      Whereas, Fifty-one sporter teams and 20 precision teams
7    gathered from across the country to compete for national
8    honors. Representing 22 states and a United States Department
9    of Defense school from Japan, the championship field
10    showcased the increasing strength and reach of scholastic
11    marksmanship;
12Whereas, Competition was fierce from the first relay to the
13    final shot, but the Hoosier athletes from Floyd Central High
14    School rose to the occasion in commanding fashion;
15Whereas, Cadets Megan Fondy, Logan Hall, Ysabelle
16    Martinez, Lacy Schilmiller, and Emma Velten make up the rifle
17    team that won the team competition with a score of 4,709,
18    which was 104 points higher than that of the second-place team
19    and by far the greatest margin of victory separating any of the
20    top contenders;
21Whereas, Lacy Schilmiller finished first in the nation in the
22    individual competition, Ysabelle Martinez finished second, and
23    Logan Hall finished sixth with scores of 464.5, 464.1, and
24    418.4, respectively;
25Whereas, Master Gunnery Sergeant Leonard Akermon is the
26    NJROTC instructor for Floyd Central High School and trains
27    the members of the rifle team to be outstanding marksmen;
28Whereas, Competing on the rifle team requires cadets to be
29    extremely focused, patient, and disciplined, and they must excel
30    academically to participate; and
31Whereas, Indiana shooting sports continue to demonstrate
32    not only competitive excellence but also the depth of talent
33    being developed within its scholastic programs, and the Floyd
34    Central High School NJROTC rifle team is a prime example:

1    Therefore,
2Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the
3General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
4SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives
5    honors the Floyd Central High School NJROTC rifle team for
6    winning the NJROTC Precision Rifle National Championship
7    for the second consecutive year.
8SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
9    Representatives shall transmit copies of this resolution to State
10    Representative Edward D. Clere for distribution.
