A HOUSE RESOLUTION honoring the Floyd Central
High School Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps
Rifle Team.
Whereas, The Floyd Central High School Navy Junior
Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) rifle team won the
NJROTC Precision Rifle National Championship for the second
consecutive year;
Whereas, The Floyd Central High School NJROTC rifle
team is known for exceptional marksmanship and consistently
demonstrates its excellence in shooting competitions;
Whereas, Its members shoot with air rifles in three positions:
prone, kneeling, and standing, allowing them to learn and
demonstrate precision and accuracy while following strict
safety protocols;

Whereas, The Civilian Marksmanship Program, in
cooperation with the Missouri Marksmanship Education
Center, hosted the NJROTC National Championships at its new
state-of-the-art training facility in Columbia, Missouri, from
February 12 to February 14;
Whereas, Fifty-one sporter teams and 20 precision teams
gathered from across the country to compete for national
honors. Representing 22 states and a United States Department
of Defense school from Japan, the championship field
showcased the increasing strength and reach of scholastic
marksmanship;
Whereas, Competition was fierce from the first relay to the
final shot, but the Hoosier athletes from Floyd Central High
School rose to the occasion in commanding fashion;
Whereas, Cadets Megan Fondy, Logan Hall, Ysabelle
Martinez, Lacy Schilmiller, and Emma Velten make up the rifle
team that won the team competition with a score of 4,709,
which was 104 points higher than that of the second-place team
and by far the greatest margin of victory separating any of the
top contenders;
Whereas, Lacy Schilmiller finished first in the nation in the
individual competition, Ysabelle Martinez finished second, and
Logan Hall finished sixth with scores of 464.5, 464.1, and
418.4, respectively;
Whereas, Master Gunnery Sergeant Leonard Akermon is the
NJROTC instructor for Floyd Central High School and trains
the members of the rifle team to be outstanding marksmen;
Whereas, Competing on the rifle team requires cadets to be
extremely focused, patient, and disciplined, and they must excel
academically to participate; and
Whereas, Indiana shooting sports continue to demonstrate
not only competitive excellence but also the depth of talent
being developed within its scholastic programs, and the Floyd
Central High School NJROTC rifle team is a prime example:

Therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the
General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives
honors the Floyd Central High School NJROTC rifle team for
winning the NJROTC Precision Rifle National Championship
for the second consecutive year.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
Representatives shall transmit copies of this resolution to State
Representative Edward D. Clere for distribution.
