1AN ACT
2 To enact R.S. 14:100(B)(2) and (D), relative to hit-and-run driving offenses; to provide for
3considerations when setting bail for hit-and-run driving offenses; to direct the law
4enforcement agency responding to a hit-and-run offense to use a certain system to
5notify all law enforcement agencies of the offense; and to provide for related matters.
6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7Section 1. R.S. 14:100(B)(2) and (D) are hereby enacted to read as follows:
8§100. Hit-and-run driving

10B. For the purpose of this Section:

12(2) "Louisiana Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (LLETS)"
13means a system that is established and overseen by the Department of Public Safety
14and Corrections, office of state police, and provides for statewide dissemination of
15system-generated notifications to all Louisiana law enforcement agencies.

17D.(1) This Subsection shall be cited as "Jody's Law". In all cases alleging
18a violation of this Section, the court shall use the factors provided in Code of
19Criminal Procedure Article 316 to set bail. No fixed bail schedule may be used in
20setting bail.

1(2) Law enforcement agencies responsible for investigating hit-and-run
2driving offenses shall adopt protocols and procedures to rapidly notify other law
3enforcement agencies of all of the following:
4(a) That a hit-and-run offense has occurred.
5(b) If known, whether any injuries were reported.
6(c) If known, the make, model, and license plate number of the vehicle
7driven by a person who committed a hit-and-run driving offense.
8(d) If known, the direction of travel of the vehicle driven by the person who
9committed a hit-and-run driving offense.
10(3) The law enforcement agency investigating a hit-and-run driving offense
11shall utilize the Louisiana Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (LLETS)
12to disseminate the information required by Paragraph (2) of this Subsection.
13Section 2.   The Louisiana State Law Institute is authorized and directed to
14 alphabetize and renumber the definitions contained in R.S. 14:100(B) and to correct any
15 cross references to the renumbered paragraphs if necessary.
