hb889/chaptered.txtENROLLED2026 Regular SessionACT No. 324HOUSE BILL NO. 889BY REPRESENTATIVE ORGERON1AN ACT2 To amend and reenact R.S. 56:449(C), relative to tagging of oysters; to establish a tag for3bulk harvesting for alternative oyster cultivation; and to provide for related matters.4 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5Section 1. R.S. 56:449(C) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:6§449. Tags; distribution; use; containers; penalties7* * *8C.(1) All oysters and other molluscan species taken from Louisiana waters9for sale which are sacked or otherwise containerized while in the shell and on board10a fisherman's vessel shall be tagged prior to removal from the vessel. The tag shall11include all information required by the Louisiana Department of Health, office of12public health, and the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. All oysters and other13molluscan species which are to be sacked or otherwise containerized while in the14shell at dockside shall be containerized and tagged immediately upon arrival at the15dock prior to shipment.16(2) The department shall establish a bulk tagging process to be utilized for17alternative oyster cultivation. The bulk tag may be utilized to represent all oysters18on board the vessel between the harvest area and the dockside facility.
