No. 172025-2026Senator Hicks-HudsonCosponsors: Senators Antonio, Wilson, WeinsteinA CONCURRENT RESOLUTIONTo support the creation of a U.S. Great Lakes Waterfront 1Trail. 2BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF OHIO (THE HOUSE OFREPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING):WHEREAS, The Great Lakes are the largest system of 3freshwater lakes in the world; and 4WHEREAS, Canada's Great Lakes Waterfront Trail stretches 5more than 2,250 miles from Lake Superior to the St. Lawrence 6River at the Ontario-Quebec border. The trail is a greenway 7route of interconnecting roads and off-road trails joining more 8than 150 communities, including Indigenous nations; and 9WHEREAS, There are currently three established or emerging 10pedestrian and bicycle international crossings between the 11United States and Canada; and 12WHEREAS, The National Park Service's Rivers, Trails, and 13Conservation Assistance Program is currently mapping a potential 14route for a recreational trail along all eight Great Lakes 15states; and 16WHEREAS, Recreational trails connect people with nature, 17improve public health, and foster economic activity; and 18S. C. R. No. 17 Page 2As IntroducedWHEREAS, The State of Ohio and its communities have worked 19to establish a scenic byway, local trails, and bike routes 20across its 312 miles of Lake Erie shoreline; and 21WHEREAS, Extensive planning has been done to envision 22shoreline experiences, especially in the greater Cleveland area 23and Sandusky; now therefore be it 24RESOLVED, That we, the members of the 136th General 25Assembly of the State of Ohio, support the work being done 26towards the creation of the U.S. Great Lakes Waterfront Trail; 27and be it further 28RESOLVED, That we, the members of the 136th General 29Assembly of the State of Ohio, urge Ohio agencies, regional 30planning organizations, metropolitan planning organizations, and 31other interested entities to continue to coordinate with other 32states on a shared identity for this regional trail; and be it 33further 34RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit duly 35authenticated copies of this resolution to the news media of 36Ohio. 37
