Celebrating the life of Mozell Booker.
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 9, 2026
WHEREAS, Mozell Booker, a former member of the Fluvanna County Board of Supervisors, who provided leadership on many fronts with compassion and conviction, died on September 30, 2025; and
WHEREAS, Mozell Booker was notably the first African American woman elected to the Fluvanna County Board of Supervisors, and she represented the Fork Union District on the board for 16 years; and
WHEREAS, Mozell Booker was a passionate and unwavering advocate for education during and after her more than 30-year career in public education as a teacher, principal, and administrator; and
WHEREAS, Mozell Booker was a tireless champion for her community, serving several organizations, including the Fluvanna-Louisa Housing Foundation, the Jefferson Area Board for Aging Board of Directors, the Fluvanna Partnership for Aging, the Fluvanna Social Services Board, the Fluvanna Community Policy and Management Team, the Youth Advisory Council, the Central Virginia Regional Housing Partnership, and the Fork Union Sanitary District Advisory Committee; and
WHEREAS, in 2018, the African American Teaching Fellows bestowed upon Mozell Booker the John E. Baker Legacy Award, honoring her lifetime of service to education and the broader community; and
WHEREAS, Mozell Booker will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by her daughter, Kimberley, and her family; her brother, Steven; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Mozell Booker, an exemplary community steward and outstanding Virginian; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Mozell Booker as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for her memory.
