Celebrating the life of Herbert Glover Wharam, Jr.
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 9, 2026
WHEREAS, Herbert Glover Wharam, Jr., an active and beloved member of the Buckingham County community, died on October 1, 2025, leaving a legacy of integrity, service, and dedication that inspired all who knew him; and
WHEREAS, known affectionately by friends and family as “Junior,” Herbert Wharam was a dedicated employee at Virginia Power for more than 45 years, where he worked tirelessly to facilitate the delivery of energy to support the Commonwealth's homes and businesses; and
WHEREAS, Herbert Wharam joined the Arvonia Volunteer Fire Department in 1991 as a volunteer firefighter and later served the department as secretary for more than 20 years, giving generously of his time to safeguard the lives and property of Buckingham County; and
WHEREAS, Herbert Wharam contributed to the growth and development of young people as a longtime volunteer with the Buckingham County Youth League, first in his capacity as a coach and later as the league's secretary; and
WHEREAS, Herbert Wharam's joys in life included cheering on the Atlanta Braves and University of Virginia sports teams, fishing, camping, and traveling on cruises with his wife, Terry; and
WHEREAS, Herbert Wharam will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his loving wife, Terry; his son, Brett, and his family; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Herbert Glover Wharam, Jr., a cherished member of the Buckingham County community whose kindness and generosity touched countless lives; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Herbert Glover Wharam, Jr., as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
