Document has been reformatted to meet World Wide Web specifications.)A house RESOLUTIONTO RECOGNIZE MARCH 2026 AS "CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASEAWARENESS MONTH" IN SOUTH CAROLINA IN ORDER TO RAISE AWARENESS OF THE NEED FORRESEARCH, SCREENING PROGRAMS, AND ACCESS TO CARE FOR INDIVIDUALS WHO SUFFERFROM CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE.Whereas, more than onein seven individuals in the United States, totaling approximately 37 millionAmericans, are estimated to have chronic kidney disease (CKD), andapproximately 90% of those individuals are unaware that they have CKD; andWhereas, while the twomost common causes of kidney disease are hypertension and heart disease, thethird-leading cause of kidney disease is glomerulonephritis, often caused byrare immune-mediated kidney diseases such as IgA nephropathy (IgAN)-mediatedand Apolipoprotein L1 (APOL1)-mediated kidney disease gene; andWhereas, patients withglomerular diseases frequently advance to more costly and more debilitatinglater stages of kidney disease, including end-stage renal disease (ESRD), morequickly than patients with CKD in general; andWhereas, 90% ofpatients with CKD stages 1-3 are undiagnosed, and when diagnosed, such patientsare often in late stages of the disease, when irreversible damage to thekidneys has already occurred; andWhereas, it isimperative to improve diagnosis and treatment of CKD through community-basedprograms that address awareness, diagnosis, and treatment of chronic kidneydisease. Now, therefore,Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:That the members of theSouth Carolina House of Representatives,by this resolution, recognize March 2026 as "Chronic Kidney Disease AwarenessMonth" in South Carolina in order to raise awareness of the need for research,screening programs, and access to care for individuals who suffer from chronickidney disease.----XX----This web page was last updated on March 05, 2026 at 11:57 AM
