101      MEMORIALIZING FORMER SENATOR MARYANNE TEBEDO.
1WHEREAS, MaryAnne Tebedo, the former Senator, departed this
2      life on February 13, 2023, at the age of 86; and
3WHEREAS, MaryAnne Geivett Tebedo was born on October 30,
4      1936, in Denver, Colorado, to Harvey and Alma Geivett; and
5WHEREAS, She married the love of her life, Donald E. Tebedo,
6      in 1954, and together they had six children; and
7WHEREAS, MaryAnne and her husband moved to Pueblo,
8      Colorado, in 1958 where she became active in politics as a founding
9      member of the Belnor Republican Women's Club; and

10WHEREAS, She was then recruited by the Republican party to

1 open an office for Colorado United States Senator Peter H. Dominic and
2 served as his southern Colorado administrative assistant; and
3WHEREAS, MaryAnne and her husband later moved to Colorado
4 Springs, and while raising their children, she was deeply involved in the
5 community's political arena, serving on staffing campaigns to elect local
6 people to public office, including county commissioners, legislators,
7 congressmen, and governors; and
8WHEREAS, Her commitment and dedication to Ronald Reagan
9 led her to accept the co-chairmanship of his El Paso County Presidential
10 Election Committee and took her to two national conventions as a
11 member of his presidential election staff and Coordinator for Colorado's
12 Youth for Reagan; and
13WHEREAS, The very same people whom Senator Tebedo helped
14 elect to public office asked her to consider public office herself, which
15 she did in 1982, after her youngest child graduated from high school; and
16WHEREAS, She was appointed to represent El Paso County as a
17 Republican in the Colorado House of Representatives in 1982 and was
18 reelected for three more terms through 1988; and
19WHEREAS, In 1988, Senator Tebedo was elected to serve in the
20 Colorado Senate and served until the completion of her career on
21 December 31, 2001; and
22WHEREAS, As a member of the Colorado House of
23 Representatives, Senator Tebedo served as vice-chair of the Business
24 Affairs and Labor committee and served on the Health, Environment,
25 Welfare, and Institutions; Appropriations; and Finance committees; and
26WHEREAS, As a senator, Senator Tebedo served as chair of the
27 Local Government and State, Veterans, and Military Affairs committees
28 and vice-chair of the Transportation; Local Government; and State,
29 Veterans, and Military Affairs committees, and she also served on the
30 Business Affairs and Labor, Appropriations, and Education committees;
31 and
32WHEREAS, Over thirty years ago, Senator Tebedo worked
33 tirelessly, along with Costas Rombocos, the CEO of the Shrine of
34 Remembrance Funeral Home, and a task force of industry leaders to

1 rewrite and clarify the Colorado preneed funeral contracts law to
2 optimally protect the state's residents and to provide a clear and concise
3 law that could be uniformly observed by the state's death care providers;
4 and
5WHEREAS, In addition to her tenure in the Colorado General
6 Assembly, Senator Tebedo was a professional registered parliamentarian,
7 beginning in 1979; and
8WHEREAS, Senator Tebedo was a member of the National
9 Association of Parliamentarians, served as president of the Colorado
10 Springs unit of the national association, and was a member of the board
11 of directors of the Colorado Association of Parliamentarians; and
12WHEREAS, In 2000, Senator Tebedo completed studies at the
13 University of Denver, University College, as a trained mediator and
14 served as a guidelines member of the Colorado Council of Mediator
15 Organizations, specializing in civic disputes; and
16WHEREAS, Senator Tebedo was the sole proprietor of Colorado
17 Mediation, LLC, practicing mediation, facilitation, negotiation, and
18 arbitration; now, therefore,
19Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Seventy-fifth General Assembly
20 of the State of Colorado, the House of Representatives concurring herein:
21That, in the death of MaryAnne Tebedo, the people of the state of
22 Colorado have lost a devoted public servant and an outstanding citizen,
23 and that we, the members of the Seventy-fifth General Assembly, pay
24 tribute to MaryAnne Tebedo for years of dedicated public service and do
25 hereby extend our deep and heartfelt sympathy to the members of her
26 family.
27Be It Further Resolved, That copies of this Joint Memorial be sent
28 to Senator Tebedo's surviving children: Kevin, Ronald, and Thomas
29 Tebedo and Christine Tebedo Ramirez.
