No. 409903/09/2026 Authored by BurkelThe bill was read for the first time and referred to the Committee on Agriculture Finance and Policy1.1A bill for an act1.2relating to agriculture; removing prohibition on new white-tailed deer farms;1.3amending Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 35.155, subdivision 10.1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:1.5Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 35.155, subdivision 10, is amended to read:1.6Subd. 10. Mandatory registration. (a) A person may not possess live Cervidae in1.7Minnesota unless the person is registered with the Board of Animal Health and meets all1.8the requirements for farmed Cervidae under this section. Cervidae possessed in violation1.9of this subdivision may be seized and destroyed by the commissioner of natural resources.1.10(b) A person whose registration is revoked by the board is ineligible for future registration1.11under this section unless the board determines that the person has undertaken measures that1.12make future escapes extremely unlikely.1.13(c) The board must not allow new registrations under this section for possessing1.14white-tailed deer. This paragraph does not prohibit a person holding a valid registration1.15under this subdivision from selling or transferring the person's registration to an immediate1.16family member. A valid registration may be sold or transferred only once under this1.17paragraph. Before the board approves a sale or transfer under this paragraph, the board must1.18verify that the registration is in good standing and the eligible family member must pay a1.19onetime transfer fee of $500 to the board.Section 1. 1
