sb832/introduced.txtSENATE BILL NO. 832A bill to amend 1968 PA 318, entitled"An act to implement the provisions of section 10of article 4 of the constitution relating to substantial conflicts of intereston the part of members of the legislature and state officers in respect tocontracts with the state and the political subdivisions thereof; to provide forpenalties for the violation thereof; to repeal all acts and parts of acts inconflict with this act; and to validate certain contracts,"(MCL 15.301 to 15.310) by adding section 8a.the people of the state of michigan enact:Sec. 8a. (1) Alegislator shall not chair a legislative committee if an immediate familymember of that legislator is the head of a principal department and chairingthat committee would create a conflict of interest.(2) As used in this section:(a) "Immediate family member" means any of the following:(i) Theindividual's parent.(ii) Theindividual's sibling.(iii) Theindividual's child.(iv) Theindividual's spouse.(v) The individual'ssister-in-law or brother-in-law.(b) "Legislator" means a member of the state house ofrepresentatives or state senate.
