                               HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 1146
                                           By Hakeem
                              A RESOLUTION to commend Kyra LaNay Gillum for exemplary
                                           service as a legislative intern.
       WHEREAS, each legislative session, the members of this General Assembly are
pleased to recognize certain persons who have committed themselves, through their adroit
service, to the betterment of the legislative process; and
       WHEREAS, Kyra LaNay Gillum is one such individual, who has distinguished herself in
her role as a legislative intern for Representative Yusuf Hakeem; Ms. Gillum's work has resulted
in innumerable benefits for the legislators she assisted and the General Assembly as a whole;
and
       WHEREAS, a student at LeMoyne-Owen College, where she is highly regarded by her
peers, Ms. Gillum has achieved academic success while pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in
Sociology; and
       WHEREAS, during her collegiate career, Kyra Gillum has served in several leadership
roles, including as a student ambassador, a community health worker, a member of the Campus
Activity Board, and president of her school's chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; she
was also involved with Culture 4 The Change, the UnFiltered Podcast, the Equity Alliance, and
the National Pan-Hellenic Council; and
       WHEREAS, a leader in her community, Ms. Gillum has organized Juneteenth
celebrations, youth-led community advocacy initiatives, and public health awareness events;
assisted with campus Student Development and Engagement programming; supported seniors
through community outreach; and participated in voter registration and food distribution efforts;
and

       WHEREAS, she devoted her time and talents as a volunteer for Infant Loss Resources,
where she also served as a social media intern in 2025, managing social media content and
digital outreach to raise awareness and connect families in crisis with resources; and
       WHEREAS, prior to her time with the General Assembly, Kyra Gillum participated in
internships with ALSAC and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the Transitional Reentry
Adult Program, further demonstrating her commitment to service, community impact, and
meaningful change; and
       WHEREAS, eager to familiarize herself with the characteristics and complexities of
Tennessee State government and to further her studies, Kyra Gillum brought her many abilities
and singular expertise to Capitol Hill for the 2026 session of the One Hundred Fourteenth
General Assembly; and
       WHEREAS, throughout the 2026 legislative session, Ms. Gillum has surpassed all
criteria that define a devoted and conscientious legislative intern; and
       WHEREAS, Kyra Gillum has performed her many duties with extraordinary insight and
rare decorum; now, therefore,
       BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
CONCURRING, that we commend Kyra LaNay Gillum for outstanding service as a legislative
intern for Representative Yusuf Hakeem and extend to her our best wishes for every future
success.
       BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear
without House or Senate designation.
