hjr1146/draft.txt<BillNo> <Sponsor>HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 1146By HakeemA RESOLUTION to commend Kyra LaNay Gillum for exemplaryservice as a legislative intern.WHEREAS, each legislative session, the members of this General Assembly arepleased to recognize certain persons who have committed themselves, through their adroitservice, to the betterment of the legislative process; andWHEREAS, Kyra LaNay Gillum is one such individual, who has distinguished herself inher role as a legislative intern for Representative Yusuf Hakeem; Ms. Gillum's work has resultedin innumerable benefits for the legislators she assisted and the General Assembly as a whole;andWHEREAS, a student at LeMoyne-Owen College, where she is highly regarded by herpeers, Ms. Gillum has achieved academic success while pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree inSociology; andWHEREAS, during her collegiate career, Kyra Gillum has served in several leadershiproles, including as a student ambassador, a community health worker, a member of the CampusActivity Board, and president of her school's chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; shewas also involved with Culture 4 The Change, the UnFiltered Podcast, the Equity Alliance, andthe National Pan-Hellenic Council; andWHEREAS, a leader in her community, Ms. Gillum has organized Juneteenthcelebrations, youth-led community advocacy initiatives, and public health awareness events;assisted with campus Student Development and Engagement programming; supported seniorsthrough community outreach; and participated in voter registration and food distribution efforts;andHJR1146015520-1-WHEREAS, she devoted her time and talents as a volunteer for Infant Loss Resources,where she also served as a social media intern in 2025, managing social media content anddigital outreach to raise awareness and connect families in crisis with resources; andWHEREAS, prior to her time with the General Assembly, Kyra Gillum participated ininternships with ALSAC and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the Transitional ReentryAdult Program, further demonstrating her commitment to service, community impact, andmeaningful change; andWHEREAS, eager to familiarize herself with the characteristics and complexities ofTennessee State government and to further her studies, Kyra Gillum brought her many abilitiesand singular expertise to Capitol Hill for the 2026 session of the One Hundred FourteenthGeneral Assembly; andWHEREAS, throughout the 2026 legislative session, Ms. Gillum has surpassed allcriteria that define a devoted and conscientious legislative intern; andWHEREAS, Kyra Gillum has performed her many duties with extraordinary insight andrare decorum; now, therefore,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDFOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATECONCURRING, that we commend Kyra LaNay Gillum for outstanding service as a legislativeintern for Representative Yusuf Hakeem and extend to her our best wishes for every futuresuccess.BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be preparedfor presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made tothe appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appearwithout House or Senate designation.-2- 015520
