4 HR____ COMMENDING WENONAH HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM
5 FOR WINNING THE 2026 ALABAMA HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC
6 ASSOCIATION 5A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

8WHEREAS, highest commendations are herein proudly
9 presented to the Wenonah High School Boys Basketball Team
10 from Birmingham, Alabama, on winning the 2026 Alabama High
11 School Athletic Association (AHSAA) 5A State Championship on
12 March 7, 2026, at Legacy Arena in Birmingham; and
13WHEREAS, through teamwork, diligence, and a
14 commitment to excellence, the Wenonah High School Dragons
15 took the 101-40 victory over Sylacauga, making history as
16 the first AHSAA boys team to score 100 points in a title
17 game; the 61-point win set a new AHSAA all-time record for
18 the largest margin of victory in a title game; and
19WHEREAS, Brendon Davis was named the Tournament Most
20 Valuable Player after an extraordinary performance,
21 supported by All-Tournament Team selections Jaurice Smith,
22 Santez Pendleton, and Demazzia Taylor; and
23WHEREAS, this victory marks the seventh state title
24 in the storied history of Wenonah High School basketball;
25 Wenonah's victory avenged a 69-68 loss to Sylacauga in last
26 year's Class 5A semifinals; the win reflects a tradition of
27 excellence, discipline, and community pride; and
28WHEREAS, Brendon Davis led Wenonah with 42 points and

29 six rebounds, and Santez Pendleton added 25 points, 19
30 rebounds, and eight assists; Devonte Penn added 13 points,
31 and Demazzia Taylor scored 11; and
32WHEREAS, the Wenonah High School Boys Basketball Team
33 has been coached and inspired by Head Coach Cedric Lane and
34 his staff; under their leadership, the players have
35 broadened their knowledge of the game, refined their skills
36 in execution, and established a school tradition of superior
37 play and true sportsmanship; and
38WHEREAS, the dedication of the entire roster,
39 coaching staff, and the Wenonah community has brought great
40 honor to the City of Birmingham and the State of Alabama;
41 and
42WHEREAS, the Wenonah High School Boys Basketball
43 Team's success is a tremendous source of pride for their
44 families, classmates, teachers, administrators, and the
45 entire community, whose dedication and support have played a
46 crucial role in motivating the team; now therefore,
47BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
48 LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That the Wenonah High School 2026
49 Boys Basketball Team and coaches are highly honored and
50 commended on winning the AHSAA 5A State Championship Title,
51 and we hereby dedicate this resolution to them in utmost
52 admiration, along with best wishes for continued success.
