A house RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND
HONOR RICHARD W. "DICK" HAWKINS, LIEUTENANT COLONEL IN THE UNITED STATES AIR
FORCE, RETIRED, AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM ON BEING NAMED CHAIRMAN OF CHRISTIAN
EDUCATION INITIATIVE.
Whereas, the South
Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that Richard W. "Dick"
Hawkins has been named chairman of Christian Education Initiative with a wealth
of experience from the military and education; and
Whereas, born and reared
in the Santa Monica area of California, Mr. Hawkins had a conservative upbringing
without a Christian background. He attended the public schools of Los Angeles
City and earned a bachelor's degree from California State University in
Northridge and a master's degree from Chapman University, the latter while
serving in the military; and
Whereas, after twenty
years of distinguished active duty service between the United States Air Force
and Air National Guard, he retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Like
the Apostle Paul, he experienced a dramatic "Damascus Road" conversion to
Christianity at the age of fifty; and
Whereas, Mr. Hawkins
served as a substitute teacher after military service with Lake Havasu Unified
School District in Arizona and was very active with public education reform
until he realized the system to be in violation of God's design for social
order, no matter how reformed it could become; and
Whereas, one positive
reform he was instrumental in achieving was helping to install a K-12 magnet
school program using Hillsdale College's Barney Charter School Initiative, an
American classical education curriculum; and
Whereas, for fifteen
years Mr. Hawkins led The Truth Project prepared by Focus on the Family, which
teaches comparative worldviews, and he recently co-edited a worldview book entitled
Marxifying America: Cultural Marxism's Fundamental Transformation of the Institutions
with William S. Lind; and
Whereas, since 2024, he
has served as the chairman of Christian Education Initiative, an alliance of
ministries promoting discipleship for a biblical worldview. This ministry is
creating an outreach to parents, pastors, and Christian school administrators
with networks and resources to help build the Church, the Body of Christ,
through Christian education and Christian homeschooling; and
Whereas, Mr. Hawkins
has been married to the former Pamela Lange for over twenty-four years, having
met her through eHarmony, and they are one of the first ten couples that
married through that ministry's service. Between them, they have five grown
children and have been blessed with the affection of five grandchildren; and
Whereas, to be nearer
to family, they moved to Lexington where they now reside, and Mr. Hawkins
continues to teach profound studies on biblical worldview with its resulting
impact on government, education, and culture; and
Whereas, the South
Carolina House of Representatives appreciates the importance of the biblical
culture studies that Dick Hawkins teaches and the impact he is making nationally
and in South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the
South Carolina House of Representatives,
by this resolution, recognize and honor Richard W. "Dick" Hawkins, Lieutenant
Colonel in the United States Air Force, retired, and congratulate him on being
named chairman of Christian Education Initiative.
Be it further resolved
that a copy of this resolution be presented to Richard W. "Dick" Hawkins.
