 CORRECTIONS/PRISONERS: Authorizes the city of Zachary to use certain inmates to cut
  grass in certain cemeteries
1AN ACT
2 To enact R.S. 8:415.1, relative to authorizing the city of Zachary to use certain inmates to
3cut grass in public cemeteries; to provide for the maintenance of certain cemeteries;
4to allow for the use of inmate labor; to provide relative to the use of funds; and to
5provide for related matters.
6Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published
7as provided by Article III, Section 13 of the Constitution of
8Louisiana.
9 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
10Section 1. R.S. 8:415.1 is hereby enacted to read as follows:
11§415.1. City of Zachary; use of labor by prisoners
12A. For the purpose of abating any public health or safety risks, the city of
13Zachary may, after consultation with the division, use prison labor to clean and
14maintain abandoned cemeteries.
15B. The use of labor by a prisoner sentenced to a parish prison of any parish
16of the state, by any court of competent jurisdiction, or a prisoner in a parish prison
17awaiting transfer to a state correctional facility, to clean and maintain abandoned
18cemeteries for the city of Zachary, shall be subject to the provisions of R.S. 15:708.

1C. Notwithstanding any other provisions of law to the contrary, the city of
2Zachary may use funds appropriated by the legislature to maintain a cemetery to pay
3for prison labor from Dixon Correctional Institute.

abandoned cemeteries.
Proposed law provides that the use of labor by a prisoner sentenced to a parish prison of any
parish of the state, by any court of competent jurisdiction, or a prisoner in a parish prison
awaiting transfer to a state correctional facility, to clean and maintain abandoned cemeteries
for the city of Zachary, shall be subject to the provisions of present law.
Proposed law provides that, notwithstanding any other provisions of law to the contrary, the
