3 CELEBRATING THE 250TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE UNITED STATES OF
4 AMERICA.

6WHEREAS, the United States of America celebrates the
7 250th Anniversary of its founding in 2026, known as the
8 Semiquincentennial, marking a historic milestone in our
9 nation's journey of liberty, self-government, and the
10 enduring promise of freedom; and
11WHEREAS, the State of Alabama proudly recognizes the
12 importance of commemorating this once-in-a-generation
13 anniversary by honoring the principles set forth in the
14 Declaration of Independence and celebrating the people,
15 places, and events that continue to shape the American
16 story; and
17WHEREAS, American Village in Montevallo, Alabama, is
18 a nationally recognized educational institution dedicated to
19 preserving and teaching the ideals of liberty, citizenship,
20 and civic responsibility through immersive historical
21 experiences and programs that inspire citizens of all ages;
22 and
23WHEREAS, American Village serves as a unique
24 gathering place where Americans can reflect upon the
25 founding principles of our nation and celebrate the legacy
26 of freedom that unites us all; and
27WHEREAS, the Sweet Home 250 Festival, to be held on
28 July 3-4, 2026, at American Village, will bring together

29 citizens, students, veterans, families, and visitors from
30 across Alabama and beyond to celebrate America's 250th
31 Anniversary with patriotic programs, educational activities,
32 and community fellowship; and
33WHEREAS, this celebration will highlight Alabama's
34 deep connection to the American story and provide an
35 opportunity for citizens to reflect on the sacrifices made
36 for our freedoms while inspiring future generations to
37 cherish and uphold the values upon which our nation was
38 founded; and
39WHEREAS, the Alabama USA Semiquincentennial
40 Commission continues to coordinate statewide efforts to
41 ensure that this historic anniversary is commemorated to
42 educate, engage, and unite citizens to participate
43 throughout the State of Alabama; now therefore,
44BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
45 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That we hereby designate American
46 Village as Alabama's Official Celebration Capital for the
47 United States of America Semiquincentennial and recognize
48 the Sweet Home 250 Festival, to be held July 3–4, 2026, as
49 Alabama's Official Celebration of America's 250th
50 Anniversary.
51BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That we encourage all
52 citizens, communities, schools, and organizations across our
53 state to join in commemorating this historic milestone by
54 reflecting on our nation's founding ideals and celebrating
55 the freedoms we cherish as Americans.
