4 COMMENDING TANNER TESSMANN AND RECOGNIZING JUNE 19, 2026, AS
5 TANNER TESSMANN DAY IN ALABAMA.

7WHEREAS, Tanner Tessmann, named the 2024 Young Male
8 Player of the Year by the United States Soccer Federation,
9 is one of two Alabamians positioned to be on the U.S. roster
10 for this summer's World Cup; and
11WHEREAS, a native of Hoover, Tanner Tessmann was
12 captain of the 2024 U.S. Olympic soccer team in Paris; the
13 24-year-old defensive midfielder has played professionally
14 for Olympique Lyonnais in France for the last two years; and
15WHEREAS, both a talented soccer player and football
16 kicker, Tanner Tessmann had planned to play both sports at
17 Clemson University; before enrolling at Clemson, however, he
18 signed a contract with FC Dallas; his soccer path then took
19 him to the Italian club Venezia for three years; and
20WHEREAS, Tanner Tessmann has now played for two of
21 Europe's top five leagues, Italy's Serie A in 2021-22 before
22 relegation and France's Ligue 1 the past two seasons, while
23 simultaneously climbing the U.S. ladder; since playing every
24 minute of four Olympic matches in France, he has integrated
25 into the senior squad of the United States Men's National
26 Soccer Team; last fall, he started twice and came off the
27 bench twice, scoring in the 5-1 disastrous defeat of Uruguay
28 in Tampa; with World Cup veteran Tyler Adams recovering from

29 a knee injury, Tanner Tessmann's role could grow this
30 spring; and
31WHEREAS, Alabama can be proud of its native son, a
32 versatile player who acts with great intensity; Tanner
33 Tessmann will help move Team USA further in the knockout
34 round than any American team has ever advanced; now
35 therefore,
36BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
37 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That we recognize Friday, June
38 19, 2026, as Tanner Tessmann Day in Alabama; this date is
39 significant because the U.S. will compete against Australia,
40 and we wish to commemorate this historic event and heartily
41 commend Tanner Tessmann for his significance as a role model
42 with the talent and ability to represent Alabama on an
43 international level.
