Wallace678SENATE RESOLUTION9TO RECOGNIZE AND CELEBRATE NUCOR DAY AT THE STATE10CAPITOL ON APRIL 15, 2026.111213Subtitle14TO RECOGNIZE AND CELEBRATE NUCOR DAY AT15THE STATE CAPITOL ON APRIL 15, 2026.1617WHEREAS, Nucor Corporation is the largest steel and steel products18 producer in the United States and the global leader in steelmaking19 sustainability; and2021WHEREAS, Nucor is the largest recycler of any type of material in North22 America; and2324WHEREAS, Nucor recycles approximately twenty million (20,000,000) tons25 of ferrous scrap metal annually to produce new steel that is one hundred26 percent (100%) recyclable; and2728WHEREAS, by recycling scrap to make new steel, Nucor’s greenhouse gas29 intensity is less than one-fourth (1/4) of the global steelmaking average and30 one-fifth (1/5) of the intensity of a traditional blast furnace producer; and3132WHEREAS, Nucor has been an important part of Arkansas’s economy since33 1987 with the construction of its first steel mill in the state; and3435WHEREAS, Nucor has steadily grown and invested in Arkansas, currently36 operating five (5) facilities in the state:*ZRC166* 04/08/2026 8:13:58 AM ZRC166SR141(1) Nucor-Yamato in Mississippi County;2(2) Nucor Steel Arkansas in Mississippi County;3(3) Nucor Coatings Corporation in Mississippi County;4(4) Nucor Skyline Armorel in Mississippi County; and5(5) Centria in Grant County; and67WHEREAS, Nucor employs more than thirty-two thousand (32,000)8 employees, known as teammates, working safely at over three hundred (300)9 operating facilities in North America, with approximately two thousand seven10 hundred seventy-two (2,772) teammates throughout Arkansas; and1112WHEREAS, in thirty-nine (39) years of operations in Arkansas, Nucor has13 had a practice of never laying off a single teammate at its steel mills and14 Nucor teammates all share in the success of the company; and1516WHEREAS, the median pay for Nucor’s production teammates over the last17 three (3) years has averaged more than one hundred thousand dollars18 ($100,000) per year; and1920WHEREAS, to reinforce its culture, the majority of Nucor’s teammates21 below the officer level are treated as if they are owners of the company,22 historically receiving ten percent (10%) of Nucor’s earnings in a profit-23 sharing plan in addition to their salary; and2425WHEREAS, Nucor has invested more than one billion dollars26 ($1,000,000,000) in its Arkansas steel mills in the last five (5) years to27 modernize and upgrade the capabilities of the facilities; and2829WHEREAS, the western hemisphere’s largest beams are produced at Nucor-30 Yamato Steel and Arkansas-made steel can be found in iconic American31 structures such as the One World Trade Center, the world-renowned Donald W.32 Reynolds Razorback Stadium, and the home of the Dallas Cowboys, AT&T Stadium;33 and3435WHEREAS, Nucor is committed to education in Arkansas, offering all36 Nucor teammates and their dependents a scholarship in the amount of four204/08/2026 8:13:58 AM ZRC166SR141 thousand dollars ($4,000) per year for college or vocational school, which2 nationwide has amounted to more than one hundred fifteen million dollars3 ($115,000,000) awarded to nearly twenty-five thousand (25,000) children since4 the program’s inception in 1974, with nearly twelve million dollars5 ($12,000,000) awarded in Arkansas,67 NOW THEREFORE,8 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE9 STATE OF ARKANSAS:1011 THAT the Senate recognize and celebrate Nucor Day at the State Capitol12 Building on April 15, 2026.1314 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT upon adoption, a copy of this resolution be15 transmitted to the Chief Executive Officer of Nucor Corporation by the16 Secretary of the Senate.1718192021222324252627282930313233343536304/08/2026 8:13:58 AM ZRC166
