SJR___ COMMENDING THE MONTGOMERY ACADEMY BOYS BASKETBALL
TEAM ON WINNING THE 2026 BOYS CLASS 3A ALABAMA HIGH SCHOOL
ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION STATE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, we join the students, coaches, parents, and
faculty at The Montgomery Academy in celebrating the 2026
Boys Class 3A Alabama High School Athletic Association
(AHSAA) State Basketball Championship; and
WHEREAS, on March 6, 2026, at the BJCC Legacy Arena
in Birmingham, The Montgomery Academy Eagles, through
teamwork, diligence, and an unwavering commitment to
excellence, defeated the Southside-Selma Panthers with a
decisive 66-39 victory; this win marks the team's second
straight Class 3A state title and solidifies its status as
one of the elite programs in the state; and
WHEREAS, the Eagles used a tenacious defense that
smothered the Panthers' offense from the start and limited
Southside's shooting percentage to just 27.1 percent for the
game; by halftime, they had already pushed out to a 20-point
lead and were well on their way to victory; and
WHEREAS, on a team filled with championship-caliber
athletes, several players delivered notable performances;
Braden Gordon scored 16 points and had 11 rebounds to earn
Class 3A State Tournament MVP honors; joining him on the
All-Tournament Team are Mason Ellis, who scored 14 points,

and Jarrett Friendly, who had 14 points and 15 rebounds; and
WHEREAS, The Montgomery Academy Eagles have been
expertly coached and inspired by Head Coach Jeremy Arant and
assistant coaches Glenn Sylvest, Reg Mantooth, Gerald
Williams, and John Williams; under their leadership, in
addition to winning back-to-back state championships, the
2025-2026 Eagles finished with a 28-7 record; and
WHEREAS, the talented athletes on The Montgomery
Academy Championship Basketball Team are Rob Ashworth,
Chapman Baker, Mason Ellis, Jarrett Friendly, Braden Gordon,
Paxton Haigler, JayJay Jackson, Robert McGaughey, Caleb
Myles, Blake Parnell, Will Renfroe, Vincent Desautels,
Parker Mantooth, Harris Armstrong, Jabari Burton, and John
Harris Taylor; and
WHEREAS, The Montgomery Academy Boys Basketball
Team's noteworthy success is a tremendous source of pride
for their families, classmates, teachers, administration,
and the entire MA community, whose support and encouragement
have played an important role in motivating the team; now
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That The Montgomery Academy Boys
Basketball Team is hereby highly honored and commended for
winning the 2026 AHSAA Class 3A State Basketball
Championship, and this resolution is dedicated to the team
with highest admiration and best wishes for continued
success in all future endeavors.
