4 SJR___ COMMENDING THE MONTGOMERY ACADEMY BOYS BASKETBALL
5 TEAM ON WINNING THE 2026 BOYS CLASS 3A ALABAMA HIGH SCHOOL
6 ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION STATE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.
7
8WHEREAS, we join the students, coaches, parents, and
9 faculty at The Montgomery Academy in celebrating the 2026
10 Boys Class 3A Alabama High School Athletic Association
11 (AHSAA) State Basketball Championship; and
12WHEREAS, on March 6, 2026, at the BJCC Legacy Arena
13 in Birmingham, The Montgomery Academy Eagles, through
14 teamwork, diligence, and an unwavering commitment to
15 excellence, defeated the Southside-Selma Panthers with a
16 decisive 66-39 victory; this win marks the team's second
17 straight Class 3A state title and solidifies its status as
18 one of the elite programs in the state; and
19WHEREAS, the Eagles used a tenacious defense that
20 smothered the Panthers' offense from the start and limited
21 Southside's shooting percentage to just 27.1 percent for the
22 game; by halftime, they had already pushed out to a 20-point
23 lead and were well on their way to victory; and
24WHEREAS, on a team filled with championship-caliber
25 athletes, several players delivered notable performances;
26 Braden Gordon scored 16 points and had 11 rebounds to earn
27 Class 3A State Tournament MVP honors; joining him on the
28 All-Tournament Team are Mason Ellis, who scored 14 points,

29 and Jarrett Friendly, who had 14 points and 15 rebounds; and
30WHEREAS, The Montgomery Academy Eagles have been
31 expertly coached and inspired by Head Coach Jeremy Arant and
32 assistant coaches Glenn Sylvest, Reg Mantooth, Gerald
33 Williams, and John Williams; under their leadership, in
34 addition to winning back-to-back state championships, the
35 2025-2026 Eagles finished with a 28-7 record; and
36WHEREAS, the talented athletes on The Montgomery
37 Academy Championship Basketball Team are Rob Ashworth,
38 Chapman Baker, Mason Ellis, Jarrett Friendly, Braden Gordon,
39 Paxton Haigler, JayJay Jackson, Robert McGaughey, Caleb
40 Myles, Blake Parnell, Will Renfroe, Vincent Desautels,
41 Parker Mantooth, Harris Armstrong, Jabari Burton, and John
42 Harris Taylor; and
43WHEREAS, The Montgomery Academy Boys Basketball
44 Team's noteworthy success is a tremendous source of pride
45 for their families, classmates, teachers, administration,
46 and the entire MA community, whose support and encouragement
47 have played an important role in motivating the team; now
48 therefore,
49BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
50 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That The Montgomery Academy Boys
51 Basketball Team is hereby highly honored and commended for
52 winning the 2026 AHSAA Class 3A State Basketball
53 Championship, and this resolution is dedicated to the team
54 with highest admiration and best wishes for continued
55 success in all future endeavors.
